use trans-title for Chinese language references
[edit]It would aid the English language readers to add the parameter trans-title= to the many Chinese language references, followed by the title in English. It can be used in references set up with cite web, cite news, cite book, cite journal, preceded by a pipe like all others in those formats. Also, this article is not a stub; the trains group might take a second look. --Prairieplant (talk) 23:56, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
Split articles
[edit]I like the article as it is, with each section of the rail line discussed in turn. I see one section already has its own article, but what is included in that short article could as well be included here. That is my vote. --Prairieplant (talk) 00:00, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong Express Rail Link → Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link – name (both official and in general use) uses hyphens, not en-dashes Onanoff (talk) 05:27, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). — JJMC89 (T·C) 05:39, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Note: Ohconfucius moved it from the title with hyphens to endashes in 2012:

- Oppose per WP:MOSDASH. Citobun (talk) 06:01, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose en dashes are required to show disjunction rather than conjunction (MOS:NDASH, and FYI see this essay). There should be a redirect from the hyphenated title, which is easier to type. Reidgreg (talk) 16:01, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Strong Support (I am the proposer). The correct, official and widely used name of this project uses hyphens - ref MTRC; HK Government: Highways, EPD, THB, CPU, 2016 Policy Address; Hong Kong Legislative Council, SCMP; Hong Kong Free Press; Bloomberg. Just about every other instance (except derivatives of this WP effort) uses the official, definitive name. It is not the job of WP or individual WP editors to 'correct' established proper names. Onanoff (talk) 08:24, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
- The issue is really about the meaning, not the appearance. The terms are in opposition (at widely different points along the rail line). To convey that meaning, en dashes are used as a stylistic choice on Wikipedia. Regardless of how it may appear in reliable sources, Wikipedia's style is applied in all articles. Reidgreg (talk) 17:43, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:MOSDASH guideline. Sawol (talk) 11:08, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Now complete

Merge Hong_Kong_Express_Rail_Link
[edit]Merge Hong Kong Section of GSH Express Rail Link to GSH Express Rail Link. It is odd to single out a section of the railway and put it into an separate article. That article can not be comprehend without context. The rail only has one station in Hong Kong, it is be weird to put the two ends of the railway in two articles. Viztor (talk) 16:40, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- Agreed - It will be so strange not to move the page and leave a standalone page for the HK section. Does anyone have objections? I will post it onto Portal:Trains to ask. I will move it in 24 hours in the absence of objections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 數神 (talk • contribs) 02:50, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- I meant WikiProject Trains - sorry. 數神, the Lord of Math (Prove me wrong; My contributions to the world in numbers) 03:21, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose merge as the Hong Kong Express Rail Link part of the line was particularly expensive and politically controversial, as it more easily connected Hong Kong with (the rest of) China. This seems reasonable to maintain in WP:SUMMARY format. Klbrain (talk) 05:37, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
