Merge votes

[edit]
  • Support- but the article should be called "grills," since grills are not usually gold, and dental fillings is what I think of when you say "gold teeth." Staecker 21:06, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose merge. Grills is one spesific thing. Gold teeth is replacement teeth for people who have lost their original teeth. In other words, the "grills" article should be kept while the "gold teeth" article should be changed. Arnemann 18:50, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support- I just do not think that there is enough information about grills to make a separate article. I agree with Staecker in saying that the merged article should be called grills, however. AmbExThErMaL 17:59, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose merge. Grills and gold fillings are two different things, even when considering them both to be jewelry. sirveaux
  • Support- Since gold teeth can technically be grillz there shold only be one article named grillz but gold teeth should be mentioned in the dental fillings article. 07:51, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Support- Just like Ambexthermal, I don't think there's enough information on fronts to make an entirely seperate article. I also agree with Staecker in that the merged article should be under grills. PirateMonkey
  • Oppose merge. Grills are very different from gold teeth. Grills take up the entire front row of teeth, a gold tooth can stand alone. Grills generally have elaborate engravings as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.210.57.9 (talkcontribs)

Copyvio problem

[edit]

Image:The peoples champ cover.jpg has been used on this article to illustrate it, but its copyright notice says it is solely for the purpose of illustrating the album. This could be a violation of the copyright and possibly should be removed. Telso 19:24, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removed. I hope somebody can find a good replacement. Staecker 16:07, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Famous people with grills?

[edit]

Would it be appropriate to add a "Famous people known for their grills" section? I can only think of Chad Johnson off the top of my head but I'm sure there are tons of people of note who wear grills. StJarvitude 22:33, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

'apparati' is not a word -- the plural is apparatuses if anything, but the plural should really be avoided

The plural of apparatus is apparatus, actually. 198.143.199.102 17:52, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does Nelly actually have grills?

[edit]

Does Nelly actually have and wear grills regularly? He obviously appears in his Grillz song video clip with grills on, but does he own and use grills regularly? DarthVader 01:03, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about Wu-Tang?

[edit]

While in more recent years grills have been associated with Southern, mainly houston, rappers anyone who is into rap even a bit knows Wu-tang had fronts. A lot of up north rappers had custom grills including Jay-Z, Slick Rick and others. I think this article should be more detailed and actually talk about the history of gold fronts. I am specifically talking about removable "grills" because I don't think permanent gold teeth can be considered "Grills." If we can agree on that then we can talk about 1920's Jack Johnson and his gold fronts or even prior to that.

I agree, and I added a brief reference to earlier rappers who wore them. Someone with more definitive knowledge and references may want to create a history section. -24.128.49.39 23:13, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the following sites from external links, since they only seem to sell grills:

--Transfinite 17:44, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:68.51.135.24 please discuss the merits of the links. Do not delete them from my comment, especially since you added both of them. See WP:TALK I reverted by comment back. --Transfinite 22:12, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Safety / Long-term effects?

[edit]

Is there any info on whether grills damage teeth over long time spans? We might want to raise (or debunk) such potential concerns about getting grills. I don't know anything about this, but I am sure someone could contribute. Amber388 16:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC) theres a link in external links, but yea, i guess we should write about the dangers... WIKIPEDIA STAFF: This article was recently edited by somebody it featured many curses. After seeing this, please take it out and, after it is made better, lock this article for editing. Oh yeah, make sure you take out this too.—The preceding unsigned comment was added to the main article by 71.87.2.102 (talkcontribs).

  • The above was added to the article itself, and not here. I'm moving it here since this is where discussion about the article goes. [edit]

I added the See Also section with a link to Gold teeth. This was there once before, but was deleted. I think the deletion was accidental. If you feel that this should be deleted, please post reason here. Jean15paul 16:30, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are no images of African-Americans wearing grills on this page. Seems to be an ommission, since grills are primarily associated with African-American culture. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.3.118.76 (talk) 17:54, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good article review

[edit]

Nice artlcle on a small subject. It gets in and gets out, concisely covering the subject. I've passed this article and made it a GA, but one thing you might do, although it is not mandatory is order the reference numbers. For instance "Grills can cost anywhere from fifty dollars to thousands of dollars, depending on the materials used and the number of teeth covered.[2][1]" would be more visually pleasing if it was [1][2]. Feel free to ignore this advice if you want. - Peregrine Fisher 17:03, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photographs Used in Article

[edit]

I wanted to point out that the language in the article mentions that grills are most commonly worn by male African-Americans, age 18-35. If that is the case, why are all of the photographs included in the article picture Caucasian males? Although I don't usually think the race of a person used simply as an example is that important, I feel that in this particular instance, it would better represent the body text of the article to include more than one demographic. Or, if you must include only one demographic, make the selection of images match was is being stated in the article. A simple Google image search for the term "gold grill" returns images of both men and women of every color. Just a thought, thank you for considering. Opusfish (talk) 16:14, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The images aspect likely has to do with the availability of free images on WP:Commons showing people with grills. Check WP:Commons and see if they have any images of African Americans wearing grills. I point you to WP:Commons because, unless you have a free (non-copyrighted) image for this topic, that is the place images for this article must come from; this is per the WP:Non-free policy. World War II

[edit]

I propose the removal of the section "World War II". The burning of bodies in the Holocaust has nothing to do with jewellery, despite the ghoulish penchant of the Nazis for extracting gold teeth from their victims. It's just jarring and out of place to mention this. Coljac (talk) 02:24, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed almost all of the History section, which was a direct copy of the content of Gold teeth. Related to grills, but not really relevant here. Bazonka (talk) 17:57, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

4000 years ago?

[edit]

The quote about "origins that can be traced back to over 4,000 years ago" is unsupported by the article and is itself an unsupported claim from a GQIndia article (this article mentions Etruscans, so less than 3000 years ago). Should it be removed, or can someone point to evidence from 4000 years ago? 71.184.201.233 (talk) 17:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
