Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History"Grigore Antipa" National Museum of Natural History – The text "Grigore Antipa" tends to be given in quote marks in renditions of the English name for the museum, just as in Romanian and French etc. E.g. File:1, Șoseaua Pavel D. Kiseleff, Bucharest (Romania) 3.jpg (a monument sign for the museum in Bucharest itself), the current website for a scientific journal published by the museum (here). Annoyingly though, it appears the official website for the museum itself no longer has English language translations, so unfortunately I can't get anything helpful from there.

I know about WP:TSC and how it says to avoid quotation marks in titles, but this case may be an exception to that unless I am mistaken? Monster Iestyn (talk) 20:24, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Here it all comes down to standard practices and preferences in English Wikipedia. In Romanian Wikipedia, and in Romanian in general I would say, quotes are usually used in cases like this. You can see many cases of this type at here [1]. On the other hand, in English Wikipedia, not sure if in English in general, quotes are removed in proper names, as you can see here [2]. Why these preferences? They probably originate from extensive discussion that took place one or two decades ago, with WP:TSC being a reflection of that. I think we should maintain the existent consistency for the sake of harmony among articles (WP:CONSISTENT) and see no need for an exception. I'd instead favor discussion at the policy's talk page if desired. Both options may be more appropriate for one reason or another but only one is backed by policy right now. @Super Dromaeosaurus: That makes sense, I hadn't really looked into other Romanian museum articles so I hadn't really considered whether they too would need quote marks in some of their titles or not. I won't withdraw this proposal for now though, in case maybe there is a good argument for making this move anyway. Monster Iestyn (talk) 23:59, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
