If my memory serves me correctly, Gregory Sierra left "Sanford and Son" when he got the role of Chano on "Barney Miller." I never did know why he left "Barney Miller." I don't know why exactly he left Barney Miller, but I do remember his last episode on there. His character had killed a couple of armed bank robbers and he felt terrible about it. He was one of my favorite characters on there.
