Talk:Gregg (surname)

Please cite the origin of Gregg being Anglo-Saxon and English. Since its generally accepted in academic circles of American "Greggs" being "Quaker Ulster-Scots" having accepted origins to "Black" John MacGregor from some of the earliest colonial settlements in Delaware and Pennsylvania from W. Penn(with the exception of the Swedes in Del. of course).

The article should list Gregg as an English surname per: Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford University Press, ISBN 0-19-508137-4. I'm not sure self-published books on family history cut it as "academic" (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources). That doesn't mean one family with the name can't descended from someone of Scottish ancestry; just that the surname in general is considered an English one.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 06:43, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
