[edit]This company is notable for a few reasons, the most important being that it is owned by David Einhorn, and it took short positions on Lehman on his behalf. It's analyst started shorting Lehman last July. David Einhorn is said to be one of the big causes of Lehman's downfall.
Silly and Unsupported
[edit]"With the majority of Greenlight Capital's money in bonds and long positions on stocks, this stopped hedge funds minimizing 'long' losses or offsetting them with short gains.[7]"
This is opinion by an internet writer: "By Roddy Boyd, writer"
The short term ban on shorting financial stocks was limited to about 100 banks, and only lasted a few months. No one was obligated to be long stocks or bonds at the time, that was Einhorn's choice. Also existing shorts were allowed to stay in place.
As for the above statement: "David Einhorn is said to be one of the big causes of Lehman's downfall. Please, Lehman "fell" because of excessive leverage and bad management. Einhorn was merely a vocal outsider who had access to the media so his opinion was broadcasted. -- Jimmyreno (talk) 01:47, 30 March 2011 (UTC) jimmyreno
Merge proposal
[edit]this should be merged with David Einhorn, as most of that article is about Greenlight, and nothing here is not already included there.Cookiehead (talk) 17:40, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
