I'm a big Mariah Carey fan. I will be reviewing this in the next few days, that's if I don't get it done by the end of the day. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- Could you please expand the lead a little bit. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Dxneo: Done. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
The album has been certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and triple-platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
===> I think it's better if you just unlink "platinum," and just say it was certified in multiple countries including the US and the UK- Remember, this is the lead (summary), you don't have to go into detail. dxneo (talk) 14:34, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- I've edited it to "The album has been certified platinum and multi-platinum in various countries, including double-platinum in the US" if that's okay. Theknine2 (talk) 16:12, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ok I think "The album has been certified platinum in various countries, double-platinum in the US, and triple-platinum in the UK and Australia" is better. Theknine2 (talk) 16:17, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's very important to add "including" since there's more certifications other than just the US and the UK. dxneo (talk) 02:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- And you might also wanna add the summary of chart performance on the lead. Question, why am I not seeing the first week sales for this record? dxneo (talk) 02:44, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- The “platinum in various countries” suggests that there are certifications in countries besides the US/UK/AUS. As for first week sales, I haven’t been able to find a citable number for it - which can be attributed to its non-notable chart position of #52. Will add a section about chart performance to the lead. Theknine2 (talk) 03:23, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Dxneo: Added a sentence about chart performance to the lead. I've found a few Google search results for the album's first-week sales claiming its "54,483", presumably from someone who has access to SoundScan data, but none are reliable sources that I can add as citations. The album has been certified two-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
It was also certified 3× Platinum in the United Kingdom, Australia and Gold + Platinum in multiple countries. Why only highlight the United States? dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- Added three-times platinum in UK and Australia. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Add "including" since it wasn't certified in only the US and the UK. dxneo (talk) 14:35, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Background and development
[edit]The decision to leave Columbia was motivated by Carey's deteriorated working relationship with the label and ex-husband and Sony Music CEO Tommy Mottola.
===> The decision to leave Columbia was motivated by Carey's deteriorated working relationship with the label, and ex-husband and Sony Music CEO, Tommy Mottola. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- I see the quote is cited to two "references." My question is, why is one reference a note {{efn| }} and the other is <ref>…</ref>? dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)→
- The efn is a note to indicate that despite being listed, "Breakdown" is not in Greatest Hits, but can be found in The Remixes (another compilation album that is also part of that four-album deal). Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
the album also includes seven songs…

Bonus tracks
[edit]The Japanese edition released the following week on December 12
===> The Japanese edition was released the following week on December 12. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- Remove the semi-colon (;) and replace it with a colon (:) dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Greatest Hits was re-released as The Essential Mariah Carey by Legacy Recordings internationally in 2011, and in the U.S. in 2012.
This statement is unreferenced. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- Added references for the 2011 and 2012 dates respectively. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
"I wanted to create a collection of some of my favorite songs, several of them are very big hits and some are more obscure favorites of mine as well as fan faves."
The period (.) goes after the quotation mark ("). Don't ask me why haha, just how Wikipedia works. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Critical reception
[edit]- 4.5/5 and 3.5/5 is not a perfect score. You try rephrasing to "_____ generally received acclaim from critics" dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Rephrased it to "generally received positive reviews from critics", if that's okay - "acclaim" is a bit strong considering this album's reception. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Commercial performance
[edit]- Why is there a semi-colon (:) after The Emancipation of Mimi? dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Fixed. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
The RIAA certified the album two-times platinum, denoting shipments of one million in the U.S.; the RIAA counts each disc separately for certification purposes. As of November 2018, Greatest Hits has sold 1,230,000 copies in the U.S.
===> As of November 2018, the record sold 1,230,000 copies in the United States, where it certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).- What does
"RIAA counts each disc separately for certification purposes."
mean? Can you please quote that from the source(s)? dxneo (talk) 14:28, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- @Theknine2, you still did not explain this. dxneo (talk) 02:41, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Double-CD albums over a 100 minutes, are certified once per CD by RIAA - will add the citation for it. Theknine2 (talk) 03:25, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Please do so, and I do not know why you'd want to cite and explain a RIAA certification level on someone's album. Never seen such before. dxneo (talk) 07:12, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Dxneo: There's a few examples of these double-disc albums - Up!, Double Live and Live 1975–85 are three famous examples that have used this criteria to achieve diamond (or double-diamond) status. Theknine2 (talk) 13:48, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

- @Theknine2, you still did not explain this. dxneo (talk) 02:41, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- What does
The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified the album three-times platinum, signifying over 900,000 copies sold in the UK.
===> It was awarded multiple certifications in many countries including the triple platinum certifications in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and in Australia by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)- It is also worth noting the South Korea units. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]- Violation unlikely as Earwig finds 25% similarities on the Sony source. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
References
[edit]- ref25 and ref27 can be reused no need to cite the same source twice. I have demonstrated how it's done with my recent edits on the article. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Don't forget to do the same with the Charts. You cannot use the same source twice, rather reuse it. This might be somewhat difficult for you. dxneo (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Theknine2 (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
