State of article

[edit]

Errr, I hope that the state of the article as it is in right now, is still work in progress? Even if it is, I don't really know if wiki allows it to create an article about an album, before it is released, with nothing really known. Robster1983 (talk) 12:21, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletions at commons tend to take longer than they do on Wikipedia, so there is no rush to respond. If you feel the deletion can be contested then please do so (commons:COM:SPEEDY has further information). Otherwise consider finding a replacement image before deletion occurs.

A further notification will be placed when/if the image is deleted. This notification is provided by a Bot, currently under trial --CommonsNotificationBot (talk) 00:52, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GH status

[edit]

I honestly do not feel that this album can be classified as a greatest hits album, compilation is more representative. Just because something has "greatest hits" in the title does not mean that is what it is (most of the time that is just marketing) and the addition of "& more" allows for it to be called a compilation. It lacks all of the characteristics of a gh such as being concise and selective. ALL of her singles have been included regardless of performance and another 50% of the tracks have never even been released as singles (a lot are only random album tracks). The division of the discs into a collection of duets, b-sides, remixes etc also supports the compilation theory, being a collection of hit singles and miscellaneous.GreekStar12 (talk) 22:08, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I really am with you on this one; it's more like a compilation. But the strange thing is; Wikipedia classifeids a Greatest Hits album right under Compilation Album, and vice versa. Make no mistake: the article about it could use some clearifaction! But even still; Έλενα Παπαρίζου/Elena Paparizou; her record label; or whoever decided to release this object as a Greatest Hits. It's just like «Twelve Deadly Cyns...and Then Some». Or better yet; what to think about «10 Χρόνια Μαζί/10 Xronia Mazi» by Δεσποινά Βανδή/Despina Vandi? It could be marketed as a compilation in some way, yet she/ the record compnay released it as a studio album, eventhough «10 Χρόνια Μαζί - It's Destiny» was more qualified for that title. I really am with you on the fact that this boxset is more like a compilation. But in the end, I guess it's all about how the artist/record company sells it; in this case, a Greatest Hits. :| 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 22:49, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Having looked into her singles collection, I did noticed that her digital download «3 Is The Magic Number», as well as her Swedish songs «Allt Jag Vill» and «Genom Krig Och Kärlek» are missing. Also, her years with Antique are absent from this boxset. On the oter hand, all of her released singles appear on this boxset, including some bonussongs and remixes that might appeal people to buy it (as according to the wiki-standard of a Greatest Hits). So where does it leave us? I still reckon we should follow how the boxset is sold; a Greatest Hits & more (i.e. Greatest Hits, bút wíth extras). 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 00:23, 15 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The term compilation pretty much sums it up and the title & More allows for a broader characterization. A GH album is a collection of definitive hits that give new listeners a sense of an artist's body of work, this is just a blown up mess of crap that only appeals to a small margin of already established fans, in other words quantity over quality. As for Vandi, that album had two full discs of new material, if containing a relatively minor percentage of previously released material disqualifies an album as a studio album then none of Paparizou's albums would ever be considered as such for example.
