misplaced in Wenninger

[edit]

On a private mailing list:

Wikipedia calls this nr. W116
I would rather call this W113 and assume the name is wrong in Magnus' book (the Wythof symbol is correct for the given picture) instead of assuming the picture is misplaced.

That does make sense to me: it's more parsimonious to suppose that the word inverted is on the wrong page, than that everything else is swapped! —Tamfang (talk) 23:45, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The source reference should be considered here List_of_Wenninger_polyhedron_models, Great_snub_icosidodecahedron vs Great_inverted_snub_icosidodecahedron. The picture here definitely looks like 113 in the book. I don't have time to see what the conflict is (and the names are random in my mind), but definitely something should be corrected, including a note, if there's an error in the book. Norman Johnson named them apparently, and Magnus Wenninger are both available by email. Tom Ruen (talk) 07:20, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If only. —Tamfang (talk) 05:05, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Probably for the same reason: It looks as if the values of the circumradii for W113 and W116 have been swapped in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mennotk (talkcontribs) 02:31, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
