[edit]Hmmm. I know wp:Notcensored - but since perpetrators of certain crimes do so sometimes for "fame," should WP even name them?--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 19:30, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- I know pretty much every other shooting article names the perpetrator if it is known. I think naming the shooter now may be premature as is stating a relationship with one or both of the victims. Rumors and speculation abound in the hours after an event like this and the media is often quick to report without fact checking.Danbert8 (talk) 19:34, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
I think it more seemly to identify the perpetrator by name only once and use "the assailant" the rest of the time. My 2 cents.--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 20:19, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Weapon
[edit]Removed a reference to a Glock handgun being the weapon the perpetrator used. Please do not add a weapon unless there is a source to back it up. Also make sure the source is reliable as initial reports of weapons used are often uninformed or wrong.Danbert8 (talk) 19:37, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- A reference used elsewhere stated that the weapon used was a Glock 9mm hangun. I updated to the correct reference for the claim. Danbert8 (talk) 20:33, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Rounds' various trajectories
[edit]WP runs by not truth but verifiability. Granted. And the shooting case is one involving poetic legend versus prosaic fact. Early reports are so often inaccurate and, iindeed, in this case the early reports stated that Desmond Barnes had been shot by Rollins. He wasn't. According to witnesses, Barnes was surprised he'd been hit in the thigh, Barnes' having not been shot at close range but from afar. No ballistic tests have been cited indicating Barnes had been shot by Rollins. What the Sheriff's office has said is "investigators are still trying to determine which bullets struck which individuals"[1]/ "nor was it clear how the 14-year-old boy was wounded, St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron said. But the sheriff credited the officer with preventing any more loss of life."[2] I've updated the article (Diff). Which will be quixotic 'cos drivebyes will continually change it back. (History-with-a-capital-H possesses much grandeur; historiography, aridness..)--Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 07:57, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
