Growth?

[edit]

Is philanthropy growing? needs backup besides a grant-oriented site. I suspect it's because more people are aware of available grants out there. Julia Rossi (talk) 07:06, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to material

[edit]

Some of this material should probably be moved to Wikibooks or Wikiversity. Tisane talk/stalk 05:42, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely. I would say "most" more than "some".200.106.94.105 (talk) 08:23, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that most of the material is "how to content" which does not belong on wikipedia. I am working on edits removing all of the how to information in the "background" section, as well as clarifying and expanding on the remaining information. SydneyL23 (talk) 18:15, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I added the "manual tag" to show that clean-up of the "how to article" is necessary. SydneyL23 (talk) 05:45, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

There needs to be some rhyme and reason for the links. For example, while NASA grant links and the other gov agency links are interesting and perhaps useful, shall we post grant links from ALL the various gov agencies? And the various "professional" orgs that are related to grants... Some just seem like for-profits that you pay to help you get grants... There needs to be a standard. =//= Johnny Squeaky 01:49, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Compound noun or hyphenation

[edit]

Has anyone got current English usage rates of this spelling? The trend in modern times is to hyphenate and then ultimately combine the two words, due to their close association and combined meaning. I do find "grant-writing," hyphenated, online. Why would this word combination be any different than fund-raising or proofreading or similar compounds?67.61.55.179 (talk) 22:02, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Career

[edit]

I think it makes sense to add a section on grant writing as a career to this article. Does anyone know any good sources for this? SydneyL23 (talk) 18:50, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am adding a short section about the career using sources from Grant Writing: Practical Strategies for Scholars and Professionals and Grant Writer: Career Outlook: US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Please feel free to expand on this section and relocate it within the article. SydneyL23 (talk) 19:00, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Background Section

[edit]

I noticed that at least half of the information included in the background section fell under the category of “how-to writing” and/or the background information a writer needs to collect before beginning to write a grant, not general background information about grant writing.  I went through and deleted every sentence that did not belong in this section.  This left me with a handful of well-written sentences that contained good information, but there was no logical order to them.  I restructured these remaining sentences into two short paragraphs: one about grant funders and one about requests for proposals.  I edited these sentences for clarity, concision, and cohesion.  I also added two new sources to expand on and support the information provided in these paragraphs: The Only Grant Writing Book You’ll Ever Need and Grant Writing: Practical Strategies for Scholars and Professionals.  While I believe the information in this section can be expanded on, the Background section no longer breaks the rules of Wikipedia, and I believe the above process should be followed with the remainder of the article.SydneyL23 (talk) 18:51, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
