Text from Scotsman, 1887
[edit]I am not sure where, if anywhere, this transcript belongs so I'm putting it here for the moment. The Scotsman published the following on 11 October 1887.

It occurs to me that this newspaper article is rather better than what I have written in the WP article but here it has the chance of being improved. Thincat (talk) 12:33, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Wordpress blog
[edit]For those concerned about the reliability of the WordPress blog used in a footnote to quote the New York Times,[1] I found the reference because it is linked to from the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Archive website though I can't make out if it is an RGBE blog or simply one thought worth linking to.[2]

I removed all this when I found the Southland Times text is substantially the same. Thincat (talk) 19:54, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

- ... that one night in 1857 Granny (pictured) gave birth to 240 offspring? Source: In article at "Personal life", first paragraph. "In the spring of 1857, after remaining unproductive for many years, it, in the course of a single night, gave birth to a progeny of 240 living young actiniae." M'Bain (1878), p. 286 also Swinney (2007), p. 221 but you probably need Wikipedia Library to access it.
- ALT1:... that Granny the sea anemone (pictured) was "arguably the most famous and celebrated cnidarian of all time"? Source: In article at "Death", last sentence. "Granny was, and remains, arguably the most famous and celebrated cnidarian of all time." Swinney (2007), p. 219 – first page - but you probably need Wikipedia Library to access it.
ALT2:... that, except when giving birth, Granny (pictured) lived alone in a glass jar from 1828 until her death in 1887? Source: In article at "Personal life", first paragraph. "'Granny' died today. Since August 1828 'she' had lived in a small glass jar, that is, for the long period of 59 years. … R. Lindsay, Aug 5th, 1887" Swinney (2007), p. 223 quoting Lindsay (1887). I can no longer find the reference saying "except when giving birth" but I suppose the exception is is obvious. However, here is an example of the young being removed: "… two of the nine actiniae produced by 'Granny' … were put into a separate glass vessel" M’Bain (1878) p. 287- ALT3:... that Granny (pictured) lived in a glass jar from 1828 until her death in 1887? Source: In article at "Personal life", first paragraph. "'Granny' died today. Since August 1828 'she' had lived in a small glass jar, that is, for the long period of 59 years. … R. Lindsay, Aug 5th, 1887" Swinney (2007), p. 223 quoting Lindsay (1887).
