Revision: Not Seljuk architecture

[edit]

Just want to explain my edit here in case there's need for follow-up discussion. The page discusses the monument's supposed relation to Seljuk architecture at length, even to the point of classifying it incorrectly as Seljuk architecture rather than Ottoman architecture. However, this is not backed up by any relevant and reliable sources here. The one source cited (Redford 2010, "Sinop in 1215") is not about Bursa at all and makes no mention of this mosque. (Though I saw that the mention of Seljuk architecture was already present in early versions of this page, so I'm sure the user who made some of these edits was just trying to elaborate on already present text.)
To be clear, Ottoman architecture obviously evolved from Seljuk architecture too (and the minbar of this mosque is very Seljuk in style), but the specific architectural type of the Grand Mosque of Bursa is not, I believe, a type that Seljuks ever built - it's usually classified as "early Ottoman" architecture - and there needs to be clearer sources for this kind of discussion anyways. So I'm removing and altering the material which says this for now. For what it's worth, there's still plenty of room in the future to discuss the architectural influences that led to this (very interesting and beautiful) mosque. (If I have time I might help with this directly, but I'm working on other pages at the moment. There are many helpful books on Ottoman architecture that discuss this mosque, if you have access to a good library.) Robert Prazeres (talk) 00:53, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've finished revisions. I've left a generic statement indicating that Ottoman architecture evolved from Seljuk architecture, which could be expanded upon in the future if this article grows.Robert Prazeres (talk) 05:36, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
