[edit]Good job Vidkun! An inspiration to myself, & I hope to others! I know little about Mass GL, or I'd help. I guess I'll get crackin on CO... Also, suggest maybe in the future putting these pages, while in the development-stage, (to be deleted w/it's creation of course), under "List of Masonic Grand Lodges/(future article name)", to possibly help with collaboration? Grye 02:53, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean, Grye, if you could give me an example here? Not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just not able to visualise what you mean. I already have it linked under the List, and changed that link from an external link to a wiki link to this article.--Vidkun 03:42, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sure. Sorry if I was a little vague (& it might be a bad idea anyway. I've been known to have 1 or 2..;~)
- While working on these GL pages, we could create them under List of Masonic Grand Lodges at, say for Mass, List of Masonic Grand Lodges/Grand Lodge of wally world. Add a link to it from the talk page, & presto-we have a workspace. I say this mostly out of (my perhaps warped) logic, but also because although I knew you were working on this, for some reason it was impracticle to watch progress there on your pages. - Here's what I have done - made a subpage for the project List_of_Masonic_Grand_Lodges/Grand_Lodge_of_Massachusetts. Does that work for you?--Vidkun 14:47, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Third Oldest?
[edit]First: Great article Vidkun! I only have one question... you say that GL Mass is the third oldest Grand Lodge (after GLE and GL Ireland). I would think that the Grand Lodge of Scotland would be older. Not so? (I am not contradicting your statement ... just curious). Blueboar 19:57, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- GLMA takes their date of origin from the date of the warrant to Joseph Price to be Provincial Grand Master, 1733. Similarly, UGLE, which came around in the early 1800's, claims its birth year as 1717. GLoS was 1736. Statements made on the GLMA webpage list it as the third oldest.--Vidkun 20:06, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting... It actually does make sense as the early lodges in Scotland did not particularly like the whole idea of Grand Lodges. Do you know if the Ancients chartered a provincial GL in Mass. and if so when? Blueboar 00:36, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes and no. From the histories I have read, the GLoS Chartered Lodge of St. Andrew in 1756. This decision to form another Lodge was apparently made in a similar vein to the rift between "noble" Moderns and "working class" Ancients, and the GLoS is referred to as an Ancients GL, like the "Atholl" Grand Lodge of Ireland. See List of Masonic Grand Lodges/Grand Lodge of Massachusetts for the ongoing project and notes.--Vidkun 13:34, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
Delinked Antients
[edit]I delinked Antients where Pvosta had linked it, as it was referencing a style not a specific Grand Lodge. In fact, those Antient Freemasons petitioned the GL of Scotland, not the Antient's GL of England. Prior to their petition of GLS, they were unchartered/unwarranted Antient's style Masons meeting on their own, as was common before creation, spread and colonization by GLs.--Vidkun 19:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Source - Link problem
[edit]The link to History of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a problem... it currently redirects to the Grand Lodge's home page. I will assume they are simply updating the history page, and that it will return soon... but if not, we will need to find a new source (this is one of the problems with using web based sources). In fact, we should probably look for another source or two anyway... single source articles will inevitably draw POV questions (Im not saying that the article is POV... only that someone might question it if there is only one source). Blueboar 12:53, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately they seem to have completely destroyed the old history page. I'll get in contact with the webmaster and see if they archived it. I hope they did. Until then, here is an archive.org version: http://web.archive.org/web/20060502164554/http://www.glmasons-mass.org/Grand_Lodge/WHO/history.htm I also checked out Stalwart Builders as well as some other refs from the GL library ... more than ten months ago. I think the librarian will be upset with me. Let me try and get some page refs in for the various items. Which ones do we specifically need, besides all of it?--Vidkun 17:57, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Union of St. John's GL and MGL
[edit]This section does not exist, and needs to, but I do not have the information at hand right now. We need to document when/how St. John's GL (formerly PGL under Moderns) and the Mass. GL (formerly PGL under Scotland) united, and how/when the last surviving lodge of the PGL of MA-Scottish GL, the Lodge of St. Andrew, joined with the MWGL of Massachusetts.--Vidkun (talk) 14:27, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
- I think I have a Short Talk Bulletin on this somewhere. If not, the GL Library will have something for sure. MSJapan (talk) 17:00, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
Pageau merge
[edit]He doesn't meet the WP guidelines for notability. No one is notable for simply being a Grand Master of a Grand Lodge, period. MSJapan (talk) 20:58, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
It was under suggestion to "The article Roger W. Pageau was nominated for deletion. The debate was closed on 30 September 2009 with a consensus to merge the content into Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. "66.152.241.146 (talk) 00:01, 9 October 2009 (UTC) That's the action that was taken per the suggestion of the nomination for delection, and that's what I helped facilitate.
Founding Fathers and the St. Andrew Lodge
[edit]I added... Dr. Joseph Warren was the Grand Master of the Lodge of St. Andrews when he was killed by the British at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He was replaced as Grand Master by John Hancock who would become President of Continental Congress and be the only member of Congress to actually sign the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Paul Revere was also a Mason and member of the Lodge. Bostonian Samuel Adams and his cousin John Adams from nearby Quincy were not Masons. - Green Dragon Tavern visitor 73.46.49.164 (talk) 17:36, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
