Bahr Yussef in Egypt an older canal than the Grand Canal of China?

There is a canal now called "Bahr Yussef" in Egypt that was dug out and extended during the reign of Amenemhat III, before 1800 BCE, to supply fresh water from the Nile river to lake Moeris in the Fayyum oasis. Coincidentally, its Egyptian name, Mer-Wer, also translates to "Grand Canal". Although no longer maintained, parts of Bahr Yussef near the Nile still carry water. Does the claim in this article that the Grand Canal (of China) is the world's oldest canal need to be moderated? 107.242.121.8 (talk) 23:21, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
