Legal dispute
[edit]Janet Jackson was sued by Des'ree due to similarities between "Got 'Til It's Gone" and Des'ree's song "Feel So High" (Des'ree won). I cannot find a source for this so I have not added it but I feel it should be included. — AnemoneProjectors (会話) 21:17, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
Wrong Information
[edit]This song is originally sung by Joni Mitchell. Janet Jackson did a remake. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.212.20.86 (talk) 21:08, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
It's NOT a remake. It samples one line from a Joni Mitchell song called "Big Yellow Taxi". Not only did they give Mitchell a writing credit for the sample, she was actually listed as a "featured" artist on the single - which doesn't generally happen when contemporary artists sample old recordings and could even be read as a sign of appreciation for Mitchell's song. If you think borrowing one line from an old song constitutes a remake, you're going to find "Wrong Information" all over Wikipedia - half the pop hits of the last two decades are based on samples of old songs! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.3.237.42 (talk) 23:10, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Got 'til It's Gone
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Got 'til It's Gone's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Info on Desiree Plagiarism case
[edit]11JORN, I believe these links can help you regarding the "plagiarism" case section. --Chrishm21 (talk) 21:50, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Given Jackson settled legally to a quarter of the authors rights to Des'ree, shouldn't Des'ree actually be mentioned as a writer at the top of the article. Especially with a track such as this in which the only real, distinctive music discernible is either by Joni Mitchell or Des'ree, what sense does it make only to describe the authors as Jackson, Jam & Lewis etc? Despite the strange critical plaudits for this track, there are scarce few actual tuned notes in there which weren't by either Mitchell or Des'ree. Lcb500 (talk) 07:03, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

J Dilla/Ummah uncredited?
[edit]There's an interview J Dilla had done in the Netherlands in 2003 saying he and the Ummah (Q-Tip & Ali Shaheed Muhammad) produced the original mix of "Got 'till It's Gone", but weren't credited. Should this be added to the main article? Also, for reference, here's the source interview, the Janet Jackson talk starts at 3:40. 24.89.235.233 (talk) 00:35, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
Okay, why was my addition of the Ummah removed? I didn't use bias or anything like that and cited my sources, so I'm confused. 24.222.157.86 (talk) 18:33, 22 August 2018 (UTC)
