Gorleston → Gorleston-on-Sea – This is the current name per the Ordnance Survey, even though it was just "Gorleston". The Visit Great Yarmouth website also uses the current name. WP:CONCISE is probably not appropriate here since it seems it is an integral part of the name. Note that the ward is just "Gorleston". Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:24, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support, this is the full name of the settlement. Lazz_R 02:11, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'd also point out the Newcastle upon Tyne, Royal Tunbridge Wells and Kingston upon Hull are extremely frequently called Newcastle, Tunbridge Wells and Hull but in all 3 cases the longer name is a full formal name that appears on text sources (like maps) as opposed to in every day speech and I'd argue that Hull (in particular) is just an abbreviation even though "Hull" does show up on some maps and other reputable sources. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:36, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The Great Flood ...
[edit]The Great Storm is mentioned but not the Great Flood. I was there in 1953 aged 18 months! Ex-East-Anglia (talk) 17:30, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- That would be North Sea flood of 1953? Do you have any material that describes the effect on Gorleston? Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:39, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
