Heritage
[edit]Current wording claims he has Filipino and French descent.[1] The two sources provided are not reliable, and appear to be dubious celeb fact websites published this year.[2][3] One of the dubious sources provided,[4] describes him as having "Asian and Caucasian White ethnicities", which doesn't make any sense and the article doesn't appear to cite any reliable source. "White/Caucasian" are frequently used racial terms in Anglophone countries, not ethnicity terms. If he has French or any other European heritage, it needs reliable sources. As it stands, all we know is that he's of Filipino descent or "Filipino Canadian". It's possible his Filipino heritage may also include Anglo or Spanish ancestry, but whether or not he's fully Filipino or part-Filipino descent needs better sources that specifically state this.
Claims of French ancestry were added by an IP user back in November 2023[5]. They provide no reliable source and the only source provided did not mention French heritage.[6] This might be due to this family name having French origins, but that falls under original research. Especially in North America, names do not always determine heritage. Many people do not British heritage but adopt Anglophone names to fit in better with Anglophone society. Similarly, tons of people have names of French origin (like Charles) but have no French heritage.
Since I suspect many sources may now be doing circular reporting as this unsourced edit on his Wiki page was unchallenged for many months and I had only removed it around the time the show became popular, I think confirmation from Cormier himself may be more reliable than a third-party source regurgitating the same dubious info. - Replying to this since people[7] are adding the same sources[8][9] that have unverified claims of him being half-French descent and also use terminology like "Caucasian White [ethnicity]", which is dubious and not ethnic-related. His official Instagram page describes him as Filipino-Canadian[10]
- Perhaps he verifies his background, I'm RM it until then. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 03:33, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
