As far as I know the style manuals (especially WP:MOSMATH) don't say one or the other should be used, and I can imagine that one's preferences in this could reasonably depend on context. But I think if the former format is preferred, it should appear like this:

I remember Desai looking at data, and not finding much evidence for this model (or against this model). Some mention of empirical work would be useful.  Kiefer.Wolfowitz  (Discussion) 21:06, 17 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I don't really know about the empirical work done with this model. It is a bit outdated and a bit of a curiosity - a very interesting curiosity IMO and it seems too stylized to lend itself to easy testing (similar to Lotka Voltera in biology.Volunteer Marek (talk) 07:13, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
