Changing Status of the GST Article

[edit]

The GST article appearing as on 16 April 2016 was written in "will be" language in anticipation of GST. Will GST bills receiving assent from the president, GST Article will need to be written in "is" language. Adarsh Madrecha has started with this process, others are invited to join in this task on editing the article.

Jammu & Kashmir

[edit]

The state hasn't passed GST bill and Opposition parties have opposed it claiming it surrenders the fiscal autonomy. This has received considerable coverage and I think it should be added that GST has not been ratified in the state - http://www.thehindu.com/business/Economy/gst-launch-whos-in-whos-not/article19179676.ece 117.199.87.241 (talk) 19:22, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

President Mukherjee & Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching India's most definitie tax reform since independence

[edit]

From the image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:GST_Launch.jpg and from the text it mentions "President Mukherjee & Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching India's most definitie tax reform since independence".

And when it comes to the article it mentions about PM only.

"The Goods and Services Tax (GST), India's biggest tax reform in 70 years of independence, was launched on the midnight of 30 June 2017[2] by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi."

What happened to the President ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harikt (talkcontribs) 19:29, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Need for better citations

[edit]

While this article is cleaned up, may I suggest the following:

  1. This article currently reads like an advert for the BJP and Modi - the wiki is about the tax, hence all peacock words need to be cleaned up. I have started some of this work, but mreo needs to be done. Any help would be most welcome
  2. Better more reliable citations are needed. Somebody has put a website called "Dynamite news" as a citation for how glorious the midnight session was. For God's sake! Dynamite news?! We might as well start citing breitbart while we are at it.
  3. Much of the information given here does not have any citation to back it up. Can we please have some references from reliable news media?

Thanks a lot Notthebestusername (talk) 07:36, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Video of the president of India "launching" the GST

[edit]

I have now twice removed the video since the launch event has nothing to do with the Goods and services tax as such, which is what the article is about, and the video of the president of India "launching" the tax is of interest to readers from India only, who since this is an international English-language encyclopaedia make up only a small minority of our readers. If we had had an article about the launch event as such the video might have been relevant, but we don't have that kind of articles, since Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a newsoutlet. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 16:28, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Policy Violation

[edit]

This is a blatant violation of WP:RS. Please don't revert or you'll violate the 3 R rule. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 19:08, 31 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I took some time to go through this content, and realized that it has a lot of issues, including a large amount of out-of-date content, unsourced additions and nonsensical English. For example:
  • Unsourced: Pretty obvious
  • Out-of-date: A substantial part of the content reads as if GST has not been implemented. E.g. "So it is difficult to come into effect from April one" and "If GST rates are set to 18 per cent, the price of all essential commodities will be increased."
  • Nonsensical English:
    • "because of the excise duty, watt and central sales tax" (VAT?)
    • "GST is in front of President Pranab Mukherjee at a special Janti session" (joint session?)
    • "So this new tax can bring our lives from complex to simplicity. Freight & Service Tax (GST): Short Information: 27 May 2015]"
    • "For instance, the current tax exemption limit of Rs.100 per cylinder is Rs. There is. After the GST exchanges, it will drop to Rs 44."
    • [In the section "Taxes in India now"]: "Abacarissunka", "Sewa tax" (service tax?), "Additional Seema Toll", "Counter Welling Duty", "churcharz", "Wat" (VAT?), "Later, Betting", "Juju's Tax", "Residential Ses", ", "schargazes", "Actroy"
I'll go ahead and remove these additions, unless these issues are addressed. utcursch | talk 17:11, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Challenges in Implementation" section

[edit]

The "Challenges in GST Implementation in India" makes clear use of ChatGPT in being written. It was added in this version almost a year ago. I'm not sure what to do with it, since it's somewhat sourced and has some information, but it definitely needs to be fixed.
