On Veles, and on St. George myths
[edit]There was an edit removing the info about St. George-related interpretation of these stones (which seems to be quite widespread, at least in the press), as well as about the wooden chapel. I have reverted it to the previous edit. Indeed, I failed to find a reference for this one, but I definitely read about it somewhere, if I'm not mistaken, in a context of history of local icons. Also the relation of the name "Golos" to "Veles" seems to be a rather known thing.
Please, generally, if you don't like these myths and find them "incorrect", create a subsection, and explain, why they are incorrect. If everybody write that "Golosov" and "Volosov" means "related to Veles" - it worth to be mentioned. If it is incorrect, please, write, why it is incorrect, and what is the correct toponymy for this name. Thank you. Khakhalin (talk) 17:06, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- I added more links (including a link to an article mentioning the wooden chapel), and framed the "veneration" part in a somewhat more critical vein. I hope it will help. If anybody wishes to describe the current practices and the history of the question in an even more academic manner however, you are always welcome to create subsections. - Dear User:Злобин П.С. - please, don't just delete sections you don't believe in. Write a counterargument! If everywhere in the Net some statement A is made about a subject B, then the article about B should mention it. It would be a bad encyclopedia if it doesn't! If statement A is controversial - write about this controversy! If it is simply wrong - write why it is wrong! But it should not be just omitted! Public misconceptions should be addressed, not ignored! Thank you for your collaboration, and please contribute to the article; add a section; add arguments against this whole Veles story, don't just vandalize it!
