Talk:Goldwater rule/Archive 1
Recent addition
[edit]The following material (set off by ***) was recently added:
- The rule was not followed during the 2016 Donald Trump presidential campaign with Sam Vaknin, a mental health expert and author declaring the Republican candidate unfit for the office. ***Though same wasn't done with accessible and retrievable material on Hillary Clinton. Commenting on public accessible characteristics of person could be characterized by knowledgeable citizens but when this is done by a practicing mental health professional, it is considered to be a violation of professional ethics and could lead to revocation of license.***[1] ***William Doherty, a mental health professional from Pennsylvania organized "Citizen Therapists Against Trumpism" by gaining signed document from 2,500 professionals citing Trumpism is a reflection of values of a 1930s-1940s strong man persona which is unsuitable for new age America.[2]***
Several problems here. First, why is Clinton being mentioned at all? Was there any claim that someone violated the Goldwater rule with her? The writing style is telegraphic and unclear. What exactly "wasn't done" for Clinton? What is "accessible and retrievable material" alluding to? This isn't a complete sentence. As for "Commenting...violation...", this is redundant; the lead already says this. The Doherty sentence is ungrammatical and unclear: "citing Trumpism is a reflection"?? --Macrakis (talk) 14:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Recent Violation of this rule?

35 psychiatrists have signed a letter stating that: "Mr. Trump’s speech and actions demonstrate an inability to tolerate views different from his own, leading to rage reactions. His words and behavior suggest a profound inability to empathize. Individuals with these traits distort reality to suit their psychological state, attacking facts and those who convey them (journalists, scientists).
In a powerful leader, these attacks are likely to increase, as his personal myth of greatness appears to be confirmed. We believe that the grave emotional instability indicated by Mr. Trump’s speech and actions makes him incapable of serving safely as president." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.151.109.97 (talk) 15:44, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
