inflammatory

[edit]

What is so “inflammatory” every statement is backed by a citation, if you want to verify the information you can, by clicking on the citation. Let’s go by this step by step.

1. In April of 2015 the student union Welfare and Diversity Officer, Bahar Mustafa, banned white people and men from attending a student union event on “diversifying the curriculum” – backed up by numerous articles. Was it in April 2015? yes. Did the Welfare and Diversity Officer, Bahar Mustafa, ban white people and men from a student union event? Yes.

2. The event was described as for “BME Women and non-binary only”, but after facing public criticism of being racist and sexist this decision was overturned with the event Facebook page stating “ALLIES NOW WELCOME”, although it is unclear who “Allies” are. Backed up by numerous articles. Was the event described as for BME Women and non-binary only? Yes. Was the decision overturned? Yes. Is the term allies defined? No. Did The Huff ask what allies means? Yes. Did they get a response? No.

3. In May of 2015 Bahar Mustafa justified her decision to ban white people and men by calming that ethnic minorities and women can’t be sexist or racist. In a statement in response to the criticism she said “I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describes structures of privilege based on race and gender” –backed up by numerous articles. In May 2015 did Bahar Mustafa justified her decision to ban white people and men by calming that ethnic minorities and women can’t be sexist or racist? Yes. In a statement in response to the criticism did Bahar Mustafa state “I, an ethnic minority woman, cannot be racist or sexist towards white men, because racism and sexism describes structures of privilege based on race and gender”? Yes, there is a video statement in the cited article.

4. A vote of no confidence has been call on Bahar Mustafa, the current union Welfare and Diversity Officer, and has received 1,500 signatures so far. The vote was called because: Bahar has made male students feel intimidated, unsupported and unrepresented. She has been unprofessional in her public conduct and behaviour towards both staff and students. She has encouraged or expressed based on an individual’s race gender or social position. On the official GSU Welfare and Diversity Officer Twitter account, Bahar Mustafa has used the hash tags #killallwhitemen and #misandry, and called someone “white trash”. The twitter account has been shut down since. – This is backed up by numerous articles. Was a vote no confidence Bahar Mustafa, the current union Welfare and Diversity Officer? Yes. Did it receive 1,500 signatures? Yes. Was the vote called because Bahar has made male students feel intimidated, unsupported and unrepresented. She has been unprofessional in her public conduct and behaviour towards both staff and students. She has encouraged or expressed based on an individual’s race gender or social position? Yes, this is stated in one of the PDF documents that I cited from Goldsmiths Student Union. Was the official GSU Welfare and Diversity Officer Twitter used to tweet #killallwhitemen and #misandry, and called someone “white trash”? Yes, this is stated in the cited articles and in the PDF document from Goldsmiths Student Union.

Instead of undoing my work, maybe you should be more helpful and point out how it is “inflammatory”. Give me a citation for how it is inflammatory? --GIRC V2 (talk) 09:53, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that one IP which reverted either on this page or Goldsmiths itself was based in Lewisham. It can't be disregarded that staff/union members at the university are editing in their own favour '''tAD''' (talk) 10:10, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have no connection with Goldsmiths, just an independent observer here. I wouldn't say the current text is 'inflammatory', but I do think it's a bit excessive. I added the {{recentism}} template, which I've just replaced with {{undue}} as that better fits my issues with this article: given that it's supposed to be about the whole history of Goldsmiths Students' Union, this much content about one minor recent controversy is unnecessary and imbalanced. It makes it seem like the most important thing to have ever happened to the Students' Union; we should try to keep some sense of historical perspective.
There are also issues with the neutrality of the text. It's not that it's not well-sourced, it is, but it mostly only reflects one side of the controversy. If we're going to have this much material from Mustafa's critics, it would be fairer to also include more material from her supporters (for example, noting that there is apparently also a petition in support of her). There is no good reason for one third of the article on a student union to be focused on a single event in 2015. Please cut it down to one sentence someone. Bosstopher (talk) 02:01, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
there is one good reason, it made international news. 87.154.186.247 (talk) 10:08, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
