Far be it for me to question an admin, but Cuchullain seems to keep "cleaning up" the additions people make to this article. Maybe this means there's demand for an actual article about the term "gold digger" here, and it shouldn't keep getting removed? Just a thought. Ouizardus (talk) 20:12, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The main attempt at "article-ship" was by currently permanently blocked user User talk:Starstylers link:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gold_digger&oldid=308528598 . However it seems he was a productive user for the most part and not just a troll or a vandalizer. However his proposed version has issues even though it has sources.
I came to this page through I would rather cry in a BMW which had this blue-linked, and as this is a disambiguation page it was changed to greed, which doesn't really work as a substitute. It is not merely that there is desire for more money, but that romance is a way to achieve it. Thus when it involves marriage is a type of marriage of convenience or sham marriage, in that love is not the cause, but economics on one side of the equation. (those articles do exist but do not cover financial gain, only immigration, homosexuality, or "political")
The phenomenon of the "gold digger" is a mainstay of misogynist discourse, and a coverage of this phenomenon would have to cover this fact. I don't think it is however only misogyny - I think there is some reality here, covered already in part by hypergamy, and Enjo kōsai/"compensated dating" (Sugar daddy is also a related disambiguation page). As I understand it part of the misogynist discourse involves accusing women/"gold diggers" of getting pregnant in order to force a shotgun wedding of sorts.
There's quite a few misogyny articles in which this could presumably be included somehow. Kanye's song means maybe misogyny in hip hop culture could be added to. Mae West's "gold digging" characters, significantly covered in the version by Starstylers, means it could presumably be added in misogyny and mass media.
I think the Madonna-whore complex is very much in discussion here, false idea that either women are only interested for love or only interested for money and thus prostitutes/"gold diggers". Jane Austen's novels are particularly concerned with this in a non complexed way - Styles and themes of Jane Austen#Economic position of women maybe provides some context for this "hypergamy" or "gold digging", searching for an eligible bachelor.

PS: Two more related articles Mistress (lover) which was linked to in the definition and Sugar baby.--User:Dwarf Kirlston - talk 03:18, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed (in general), and I'm happy with the current state of the article. Thank you for the very thorough coverage of the topic! --Ouizardus (talk) 03:13, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Did you change your mind? You perhaps did not hold a strong position previously.
Either way I just discovered there's an actual page covering "Gold digger" over at Gold digging. If that page is not gonna be deleted soon, I figure it might as well be linked to from here.

Female gold digger

[edit]

Also means a woman seeking to become rich by getting a wealthy husband or partner. 89.242.111.236 (talk) 16:23, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

yes, but Wikipedia is not a dictionary, it is an encyclopedia. And this particular page is a disambiguation page, and each example must link to an article. Kingturtle (talk) 16:42, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What is a man seeking to become rich by getting a wealthy wife or partner called? -- Smjg (talk) 20:39, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure there's a special term, but I don't see why "gold digger" can't be used asexually. Ouizardus (talk) 20:03, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
An imagination. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.62.24.24 (talk) 22:01, 22 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This should be rewritten. Way too much content in parentheses. 84.208.130.173 (talk) 18:03, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
