Sakae not a derivative?
[edit]I've heard from an aircraft engine expert (no written source available unfortunately) that Nakajima did buy a license of the 14K, but the Sakae wasn't based on it. Please note that on the Nakajima Sakae page, the phrase "it was version of the famous Gnome-Rhône 14K, a license for which had been taken out in 1936" was replaced by "It was a designed by Nakajima after acquiring a license for the French Gnome-Rhone 14K". FWIW the Sakae's basic characteristics (ie bore, stroke, diameter etc) are completely different from the 14K's (see on the Gnome-Rhône 14N page as I have not updated the 14K page yet, but the K and N had similar basic characteristics). - It's probably for the best that you removed it. I have half a dozen books that mention the 14K in relation to the Sakae and that Nakajime held a license for it. But they don't explain whether it was a copy or merely influenced.
Displacement
[edit]Bore and stroke given yield 38.67L (2360cuin), not the 38.72 (2363) shown. 162.157.229.90 (talk) 05:14, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
- This engine may have articulated connecting rods, if it does we don't know the exact stroke of the articulated cylinders. For this reason (and others) we use the displacement from the cited source and not self-calculated figures. Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 21:17, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
