Writing
[edit]This article is very poorly written. Is it cut and paste from Google Translate of another article in a different language? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:192:4603:5542:6C5E:E6DB:E61A:51BF (talk) 17:49, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Pompeius Strabo → Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo – Double redirect. Convention is to write the full name. T8612 (talk) 02:44, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

- @T8612: Which "convention"?, can you provide any link? – Ammarpad (talk) 06:15, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- I thought WP:COMMONNAME applied here? -Kj cheetham (talk) 07:51, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Ammarpad: Convention is WP:ROMANS: "Many Roman men, particularly those of middling fame, will be known by their tria nomina, a set of three names...". Gnaeus Pompeius Strabo is of "middling fame". T8612 (talk) 11:02, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- That seems more like an observation than a convention. It seems to just be saying that in many cases, the tria nomina will be the WP:Common name. It does not appear to be saying that that the tria nomina should be the preferred article name regardless of whether it matches the common name or not. —BarrelProof (talk) 13:28, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- Mild support. But I would add that just "Pompeius Strabo" seems the most natural way of referring to him, especially due to him being the father of the more famous Pompeius. Avis11 (talk) 23:40, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support No reason to not include his full name. Dimadick (talk) 09:54, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- Support. Easier to be sure of where his article is located this way. The abbreviated title can still be used in suitable contexts, and will still redirect to the correct article. P Aculeius (talk) 14:30, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Infobox
[edit]This article, along with several other articles about ancient Romans, was changed to use a different infobox, {{infobox officeholder}}. In consequence, there's discussion about which infobox to use and how at Talk:Julius Caesar#Infobox and then at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome#Infoboxes for Roman office-holders as a more central location.
