Independent Senator affiliated with PUP?
[edit]... what's this supposed to mean? He's PUP, not independent. Timeshift (talk) 08:19, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah. The Senate does not formally recognise a party until there are a minimum of five members. They can informally (and for media purposes) be known as PUP, but there will be no party status in the Senate. Parties get to have a 'leader', extra staffers, a party room, a set access to debates, number of Questions Without Notice, etc, hence the numerical limitation. Whether they are formally recorded as 'Independent' for purposes of Hansard, etc, may be subject to a determination at the time, eg, by a formal Senate motion following negotiation by party whips. However, for WP purposes, it might well be less confusing to simply identify him as PUP and just forget the Senate niceties. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 09:30, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- The Senate website doesn't apply this distinction (look at Meg Lees' official biography for an example, which has her party listed as the microparty she founded), so I don't think we should either. The Drover's Wife (talk) 13:15, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- True, Lees's official Senate biog acknowledges her transitions from AD to Ind to Australian Progressive Alliance. My information did apply in the past but seems to have been superseded, as verified by the latest Odgers which states "A senator’s statement in the Senate that the senator is a member, a leader or office-holder of a political party is accepted for the purposes of recognition under the procedures." Allow me to fix up my error. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 16:10, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- Phew! For a second there I thought we were going to have a crossbench full of indies come July :) Timeshift (talk) 01:19, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

[edit]According to MOS:INFOBOX#Style, color and formatting:
General consistency should be aimed for across articles using the same infobox. A good guideline is not to add extraneous style formatting over that in a default infobox without good reason.
Thus I have again removed the extraneous <small>
tags added by Theanonymousentry, because there is no good reason for the small text. Mitch Ames (talk) 07:22, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
