The four Glen(n) Campbell articles

[edit]

I think the accompanying article is the one of four that could most reasonably (well, least unreasonably) be thot to have its visibility improperly impaired by the Dab-restructuring i propose to carry out. The current situation is this:

  • Glenn Campbell is a Dab to
    • Primarily:
    • See also entries:
      • Glen Campbell, country music singer ["Rhinestone Cowboy", "Gentle on My Mind", "By the Time I Get to Phoenix", "Wichita Lineman", "Galveston"]
      • Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania, town
      • Glen Campbell is the country singer's bio, with a HatNote {{for|other uses|Glenn Campbell}}
(I think that's equivalent to {{other|Glenn Campbell}}, BTW, and also BTW, the HatNote should make visible that the target is the Dab by using the Rdr to the Dab titled Glenn Campbell (disambiguation).)

In decreasing order, i found on Google (the italicized ones are for misspellings):

about 96,800 for "Glen Campbell" "rhinestone cowboy".
about 8,070 for "Glenn Campbell" BBC OR Scot OR Scotland.
about 6,860 for "Glenn Campbell" "rhinestone cowboy".
about 3,480 for "Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania".
about 1,690 for "Glenn Ross Campbell".
about 525 for "Glenn Campbell" "The Misunderstood ".
about 389 for "Glen Campbell" "The Misunderstood ".

(I also found

about 308,000 for "Glen Campbell" BBC OR Scot OR Scotland

but i am leaving it out of my analysis since of the first 10 pages (on 8 sites), 8 (from 7 of the sites) were about the singer anyway -- and BTW, # 3 among them is Meet presenter Glenn Campbell from BBC, which misspells their employee's given name 3 times in the last 'graph. [shrug])

I am suspicious of

about 226,000 for "Glen Campbell" Pennsylvania.

and that suspicion is encouraged by

about 47,600 for "Glen Campbell" Pennsylvania "rhinestone cowboy" OR singer.
about 3,480 for "Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania".

and

about 197 for "Glen Campbell, Pennsylvania" "rhinestone cowboy" OR singer.

because being certain the singer is involved (rather than including mere coincidences) retains 21% (47,600/226,000) of the hits, while being certain the town is involved retains only 1.5% (3,480/226,000). (BTW, the figure for being certain of both town and singer, .08% (197/226,000) reflects both the copying of pages from WP, and the singer's visit to the town in 1971!)

OK, i propose that Glenn Campbell should become a Rdr to the Dab, which should be entitled "Glen Campbell (disambiguation)", and all entries should be in the lead section, rather than exiling two to "See also". This will improve at least two situations:

  1. At present, the mistake "Glenn Campbell" when seeking the country singer sends the user to an article that invites the thoughts that no one knows that "Ross" is the country singer's middle name and that WP has lost its info on most of his career -- despite the fact that such users are much more likely to be seeking the country singer than the rocker. (Not necessarily by a factor close to sixty, but almost certain a factor between say, 6 and 600.)
  2. At present, a user sure that the town is spelled with a single N (but uncertain of the spelling of the state, or too clever to type out Pennsylvania) may be dissuaded from pursuing as far as the Dab, since the single-barreled HatNote to the current Dab invites the thot that we have no article on the town.

I don't expect controversy, but i'll wait a couple of days for reactions, since a move is involved.
