[edit]I have been unable to find any confirmation that a garrison on this island held out for seven years in the standard authorities on the period: William Miller, Trebizond: The last Greek Empire of the Byzantine Era: 1204-1461 (1926); Steven Runciman, The Fall of Constantinople, 1453 (1965); Donald M. Nicol, The Last Centuries of Byzantium, 1261-1453, 2nd ed. (1993). I don't know if it is a fact that can be documented, a local legend (worth including if that can be documented), or simply a hoax. -- llywrch (talk) 01:45, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Ugh. Now some of these claims are given a source described only as "Aretias". There is no indication if this is a book, a periodical, or someone's eccentric relative. -- llywrch (talk) 17:03, 29 December 2014 (UTC)Fixed. -- llywrch (talk) 00:29, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
