Neutral POV disputed
[edit]This article seems to focus overwhelmingly on positives, with no mention whatsoever of dead bicyclists on the stretch of Figueroa where Mr. Cedillo claimed to support bike lanes, and than rescinded said support. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.207.115.184 (talk) 20:47, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Tagged as need of clean up
[edit]This article needs more information beyond illegal immigrant driver's licenses. It needs more information about the Senator and the rest of his career. The information that is presented should be restructured with some headings.
The link at the top of the page stating that Cedillo is part of the Democratic Pary links to the page for the ethnic slur wetback. It should be linked to the Democratic Party page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.76.184.174 (talk) 00:14, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Incorrect Characterization of the Strike at LAX
[edit]The strike at the hotel near LAX was not for "illegal immigrant employees". It was to try and unionize hotels in a proposed zone that would have a modified living wage rule. The status of workers was not the issue. As a starting point, see http://www.hotelworkersrising.org/ , which is the site for the organizing effort.
Many of the workers are "illegal immigrants", but many are not. The organizing effort covers a wide area, and numerous Hilton hotels, and involves everyone from maids to bartenders. Supporters included a large number of politicians, as well as police. The overall effort was to secure higher wages in an area where hotel rates are high.
The language in the article makes it sound like Cedillo was supporting an entirely different kind of protest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.245.192.89 (talk) 10:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair Share Zoning
[edit]In my opinion, his Fair Share Zoning bill is his greatest contribution to California, the one for which he will be remembered. Not being in California, I only know of it second hand. Any Californians with local newspapers want to write that section? 99.241.128.44 (talk) 14:41, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Here's some material from the L.A. Daily News:
- A law that takes effect Jan. 1 requires that cities and counties zone specific sites for permanent year-round shelters where public or private agencies could build. ... The goal of the new law, the Fair Share Zoning Bill, is to take the pressure off places like Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles, where there's a disproportionate homeless population, said state Sen. Gil Cedillo, the Los Angeles Democrat who authored the legislation, signed into law last month by the governor. ... "All of us have some responsibility, some duty to take care of people in our communities," Cedillo said. "All of the homeless in downtown L.A. were not born and raised there. They have come from everywhere in the state." If every community offered shelter year-round, it would make the issue of homelessness more manageable and help to alleviate it, said Cedillo, whose district encompasses the many missions and shelters of Skid Row. ...Requiring special zoning for homeless shelters will block communities from exercising not-in-my-backyard protests to thwart efforts to establish shelters, said Mike Arnold, chief operations officer of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, an umbrella agency that helps fund shelters countywide.

Facts NOT Opinion
[edit]This article, says, almost at the very beginning: ". . . Cedillo, a sell-out to the United States," -- please re-write "a sell-out". Explain whether you mean he is very popular (like: the rock concert was sold out) or whether you mean he is not a "real" hispanic as he has "sold-out"?69.108.119.42 (talk) 16:26, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

Current event tag
[edit]Please add a current event tag until the duration of the election period riffic (talk) 22:59, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- This line is a bit concerning "Cedillo destroyed Joe Bray-Ali in the run off with over 70 % of the voters in Council District 1 on May 16, 2017." This entire addition is uncited and original research. riffic (talk) 23:42, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
- Added citation to cover that line. Looks like the verbiage was already toned down. 74.197.74.52 (talk) 03:56, 24 March 2019 (UTC)

Resignation of your Position
[edit]Gilbert You and I have not seen each other’s in decades, but I’ve followed your political career since your involvement with the unions. If you are wondering who I am well do you remember that one time you kick me in the balls ? We were just kids and growing up in the neighborhood made us who we are today. The truth is that everyone on the city council has in fact made those kinds of remarks, and for anyone who denies this just isn’t so. How convenient how people have forgotten is this country was founded on racism and racism will always be part of this nation’s makeup. Yourself and the other Chicanos should not and I repeat should not resign because they haven’t got caught. But they to are human and because of that sooner or later they will open there mouths and spew out the racism that they have inside of each and everyone . Please share this with the others. It’s sad that most people have forgotten that where Dodger stadium was built who Mexicans and Mexicans/Americans were displaced and taken out of their homes by force. Both woman and children by the Sheriffs Department and the LAPD were just as guilty. The only ones that suffered and were displaced were our people , no whites or Blacks no Jews or Asians either. So what are they looking at our Raza and making all these demands. The Lord our God is the only one who can and will judge us and no one else. Who in the heck are they to call you and the others racist. My response would have been, look in the mirror first or look into the abyss and see if the abyss is looking back at them. Let’s remember judge not and you will not be judge. Remember Gil no one is perfect and we all make mistakes in life. Suggest to your colleagues not to bow to the status quo and remember our humble begging and remember God is watching. May the Lord bless you and your colleagues and keep you strong and healthy In life’s journey.
Respectfully yours, David R. Rangel, Sr. Disabled Veteran 🇺🇸 For God and Country 🙏 2603:8001:1B00:510C:7887:F526:264E:BB2 (talk) 04:33, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
