[edit]Is there any information about the controversies regarding gift aid? I do not understand it fully but if someone signs a gift aid declaration and then doesn't pay enough to cover the tax claimed back THEY are liable to pay it. 'The donor must pay at least as much UK tax (Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax) as the amount of Income Tax that you’ re reclaiming. If a donor makes a number of Gift Aid donations, including to other charities and CASCs, they must pay a sufficient amount of UK tax on the total amount of those donations and they may be required to pay any shortfall in tax paid to HMRC' from http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/gift_aid/basics.htm#4
Also http://www.thirdsector.co.uk/Finance/article/1116452/tax-adviser-jailed-70m-gift-aid-fraud/ about gift aid fraud and 'CHARITIES are fleecing millions of pounds from taxpayers by fraudulently claiming Gift Aid, it has been revealed. HMRC said it has detected fraudulent gift aid claims from charities totalling more than £10m' http://www.thirdforcenews.org.uk/2012/07/charities-commit-gift-aid-fraud-says-hmrc/ and http://www.civilsociety.co.uk/fundraising/news/content/13054/fraudulent_gift_aid_claims_from_charities_top_20m_in_two_years_says_hmrc says £20m in 2 years.
Also this article is good about the cons of gift aid http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/jan/30/gift-aid-hidden-catch#start-of-comments

Start class because needs expansion on impact and history. Also, it could use more references.EECavazos 20:09, 3 November 2007 (UTC) ==WP Tax Priority== Mid priority because important in a single country. Revenue to HMRC section.
[edit]Poorly titled, poorly worded, poorly laid out. Let's delete this, eh? As an erstwhile accountant, I gotta say that this section is virtually unintelligible. Boscaswell talk 15:54, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
I can't follow it either. What is "this transaction"? Why bring NIC into it? --Redactur (talk) 11:44, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
