Shoulder-bag

[edit]

The English word gibeciere is clearly an adaptation of the French word gibecière, meaning "shoulder-bag"; from gibier, meaning "game" in the hunting sense, i.e, wild boar, pheasant, venison. I don't know what citation one could give for this, except perhaps a reference from a French dictionary. Would the Online Petit Robert (dictionnaire.lerobert[dot]com) suffice? Also, any indication of the correct English pronunciation of the headword? I'm guessing "jibbess-ear". Nuttyskin (talk) 14:49, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
