Why this can't be a disambiguation page

[edit]

We use disambiguation pages for titles that could refer to multiple subjects. That is not the case here, where there is only one subject, large to very large tortoises. The multiple examples of this phenomenon, or of any other such subject, do not need a disambiguation page. A knowledgeable person is not going to use the general term "giant tortoise" believing it refers to a single species, and if someone does, the article will set them straight. That said, there is no obvious reason why the content of this list could not be folded into the giant tortoise article. It just needs to be noted that there are a couple tortoises somewhat smaller than those most commonly regarded as giant tortoises that have "giant" in their names. Then perhaps this can be renamed as a list and the two can be merged. Regards, Sun Creator(talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:23, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(Responding to a request for comment by Sun Creator). This page is essentially an overspill from giant tortoise. It could be included in that article, but at the expense of enlarging it and making the information more difficult to find. IMO the subject passes WP:LISTN. I suggest that it be renamed to something like List of giant tortoise species, with e.g. a {{for}} or {{main}} link from giant tortoise.
The see-also section is rather off-topic for a DAB page, linking as it does to related topics rather than to ones with which it might be confused. Those links look useful to someone reading up about giant tortoises; supporting the idea that the page should be classed as a list.
I note that there seem to be no creative works called Giant Tortoise, so there is no argument in that for a DAB page.
If the page is moved, it should be done without leaving a redirect: Giant tortoise (disambiguation) would become redundant. Narky Blert (talk) 13:48, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can include a list in an article without calling it a list. I think the simplest solution is to merge into the main giant tortoise article. Alternatively, just add a section to the "Giant tortoise" article called something like "Other species described as 'giant' tortoises", and there mention the two somewhat smaller species that have "giant" in their common names.
