Notability + verifiability discussion
[edit]This article may not meet the notability criteria for WP:BAND. Improving the number of reliable and verifiable sources would go a long way to establishing the notability of this band, which has certainly had a modestly successful career from what I'm seeing. Here's my very cursory view of the 12 criteria there (note that passing any one criteria could potentially establish notability :
- Has not been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in reliable sources
- Has not had a single or album on any country's national music chart.
- Has not had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.
- Has not received non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one country.
- The tours the article mentions are both in the US, neither of which appears to have non-trivial coverage.
- Has not released two or more albums on a major record label or on one of the more important indie labels
- The two labels Ghoultown has recorded with, Angry Planet Records and Zoviet, do not appear to be notable indie labels
- Does not contain two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles.
- Has potentially become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style or the most prominent of the local scene of a city.
- The MusicBrainz annotation for the band calls the group "On the forefront of the gothabilly musical genre," and if this is played out in notable/verifiable sources it could potentially establish notability.
- Has not won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy.
- Has not won first, second or third place in a major music competition.
- Has potentially performed music for a work of media that is notable.
- American Nightmare does have a WP article but is also debatably notable IMO, and Jon Keeyes has his own article but the films Ghoultown performed for do not. WP:BAND states "If this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article." I think given the fact that it's multiple works, that goes toward suggesting notability.
- Has not been placed in rotation nationally by a major radio or music television network.
- Has not been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or television network.
As you can see, it's just on the cusp of notability on multiple criteria. I support keeping the page personally, but it really needs improvement to demonstrate notability. - - mathmitch7 (talk/contribs) 13:52, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
