The German Sign Language (JSL) family

Why "JSL"? I'm working on resources for sign languages all over the world, and I've never encountered this abbreviation for DGS (Deutsche Gebärdensprache). However, "JSL" is used to refer to Japanese and Jamaican Sign Languages.
