Pro Turkish Bias

[edit]

The GMF has provided fora and events to derail Armenian Genocide recognition. It employs two very influential Turkish journalists including Amberin Zaman.

It is a biased and very dangerous institution, the current stub needs to address the political agenda behind the GMF.

It does not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.194.63.129 (talk) 16:26, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have reliable sources that say they are biased, then add them. Anyone can edit Wikipedia. APK thinks he's ready for his closeup 01:26, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you are awarding the GMF more importance than it deserves. It is just one of those elitist organisations which operate behind the curtain and is completely irrelevant to the lives of ordinary people. I lived in Germany until 1983 and had never heard about it, although I was not neglecting current affairs. We struggled to pay taxes, and they had money for that, was my thought when I first heard about this organisation. This was when a journalist who had been a bit too active on corruption issues got a job there, so he wouldn't stick his nose into politicians' corruption any more. The second time I heard about it, today, is when they have a 40 year anniversary (Spiegel). In Australia we have the American-Australian Leadership Dialogue, equally elitist. These are just part of a web of establishment people, for photo-opportunities, paid travel. and dinners. 40 years today, and what's in the achievement report? If these organisations were of any use, our current Great Depression Mark II might have been prevented.

They were all asleep at the wheel, or rather, they do not have any wheel at all. Don't worry about a Turkish bias or not, the GMF is completely inconsequential. 144.136.192.29 (talk) 07:36, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ADDITION: The GMF is no cause for worry, since it is as useful as the Bilderberg Group. Bilderberg meets every year, has North American and European participants, from politics (1/3), but 2/3 mainly from finance but also other areas of the economy. They are secretive, so nobody except the participants knows what exactly they do, but one thing can be said: They deserve an F for failure, since we have the Great Depression Mark II precisely in the area which is their domain, i.e. the US and Europe. There seems to be a whole network of organisations that are either inconsequential or don't cut the mustard: GMF, Bilderberg, Australian-American Leadership Dialogue - feel free to add whoever knows more than me. 144.136.192.29 (talk) 03:58, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How can they be "useless" if all their members and allies got more wealth even in times of depression? Sounds like a big success to me. 78.54.69.72 (talk) 10:03, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe that should be understood as useless to achieve something useful. This text is 9 years old, practically to the day. Nothing has improved in those 9 years. Look at the catalogue of activities. Shall we assume that Montenegro in NATO is a great step forward? In addition to Afghanistan and Iraq, Libya and Syria have been destroyed. The hostilities and animosities between the US and Russia/China/Iran/NKorea etc are worse. We have drifted into a avery strong militarism and the possibility of a big destructive war becomes more acceptable by the day. Crimea became Russian. Duterte in the Philippines takes your breath away, as did the Khashoggi murder in Istanbul. France is always on the edge of erupting. Britain is out of the EU. A coup in Myanmar came as a surprise. On and on the negative developments go - and no positive contribution at all from the GMF. If fleecing the taxpayer for the wealth of an elite group is an indication then they are a success, but not when it comes to a little bit of justice in the world. They actually have an GMF office in Istanbul so they would need to be pro Turkish to keep it. 2001:8003:A070:7F00:9CDB:E026:ACCB:B19C (talk) 06:14, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Funding

[edit]

Is it worth adding a section on the German Marshall Fund's funding sources for transparency? As is reported on their tax forms, the GMF receives funding from the US government. Die Kunst Der Fuge (talk) 02:02, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
