I agree. I wrote this article for two reasons:
1) The exisitng article focus only on functions, and the more general notion of a map germ was ignored.
2) It would have required too much effort to redraft the article. The whole language of the germs article doesn't fit the the more genral idea.
It obviously raises the question: Who's going to do it?

- Good question. :) I think the merge request will stay forever at the top of the article, for that reason I moved it here. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:55, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
- To be precise, the definition of map germ is not more general than the definition of "germ" as originally described here, since it requires the domain and codomain of the maps to be both manifolds, which is a far richer and structured concept than the simple sets and topological spaces needed to define the original concept (see the references of the voice). A topological space need not to be a manifold, as analytic varieties clearly show, since it cannot be possible to define on it a locally euclidean structure or a linear space structure in the case of infinite dimension. However, the work done by User:Simplifix is very good and adds value to the voice. Daniele.tampieri (talk) 15:24, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
merge and change
[edit]It seems the merging suggestion has indeed remained for a year now. Perhaps it means this is not a very highly used page, but the traffic stats suggests otherwise. I think this page is also not as clear as it could be - in order to get far one needs to understand presheaves, whereas the notion of presheaves more or less involves the notion of germ. SO if no-one objects I might have a go at rewriting the start of the article, in a way that incorporates both this one and map-germs. Any objections? Simplifix (talk) 22:03, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- OK - I've done the rewrite, hopefully that satisfies the merge criteria for the map germ page. Simplifix (talk) 15:34, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- As it stands now the merge should take place. Δεκλαν Δαφισ (talk) 11:01, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
This has now been merged with Map_germ. Simplifix (talk) 10:22, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
would not germ also stand for merge
[edit]In that case, the heart would be damaged. Yankees = ZAP Keys — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.177.242.131 (talk) 04:56, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
