January 2016 Update
As of the 2015 inductees, there are 83 women on this list. I just updated information, checked errors, and added a column for citations. — Maile (talk) 21:56, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
May 2017
I recently updated the main table here and the associated navbox template to include the inductees from 2016 and 2017. In doing so (and researching some redlinks in this article for possible creation) I've noticed that ~30 of the references for entries, which link to URLs on georgiawomen.org, are broken now. I presume this is because they redesigned their website at some point. The new design of their site seems very Javascript-y and I can't figure out how to link directly to bios.
And so, I found adding the 2016/2017 entries that it is fairly straightforward (at least for recent years) to find a news story about the induction ceremony and then cite all the women from that year to that story. It also helps establish that this award does get news coverage for the benefit of maintaining notability on THIS article. I'll try to fix some of the broken links but I'm not going to prioritize it over creating articles for the women themselves. I'm leaving general references in place for redlinked women, as a crumbtrail for anyone looking to create those articles. --Krelnik (talk) 18:53, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- The ongoing issues with these halls of fame, all states, is that they are always redesigning or moving their websites. And sometimes, if they're government affiliated, they move from one department to another, or into private hands. Anyway, the Geeorgia site is a little slow in pulling up, and I was puzzled like you. So, I went over to my Microsoft Edge browser where Javascript is enabled all the time. I just happened to accidentally double click in the middle of the image for Sarah Randolph Bailey, and up popped her page with the new URL to link to. So, I guess that's how it's done. I put Sarah's new link in her entry on this list, so let's hope it's still a valid link tomorrow. — Maile (talk) 21:39, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- And also, that new website is apparently a work in progress, with the older honorees not quite updated. I tried to update Hazel Raines, and it hasn't been written yet. There's just her image and a notation Coming soon. — Maile (talk) 21:47, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, definitely a work in progress. Some of those images don't click. And http://www.georgiawomen.org/copy-of-carson-mccullers-3 actually links to Margaret O. Bynum, not Carson McCullers. — Maile (talk) 22:04, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed the same thing about the "carson mccullers" URL. Maybe it will get better, but in the meantime I think it helps to have some news articles cited here so someone doesn't come blundering in and making accusations about notability of the award as a whole. Plus if an editor wanted to expand the body of text in this article to add more detail about the award, the ceremonies, who spoke at them, blah blah they would be good sources. Thanks for hitting the IABot button - I didn't even realize there was a way to point that bot at a particular article over at tools. The tools server needs a better discovery mechanism - there's SO MANY tools over there it's hard to find the good ones. --Krelnik (talk) 22:24, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- The newest and neatest thing "Fix dead links" is actually on each article. Go to Page/History, and you should see the option somewhere at the top. On my browser, it's to the right of "Page view statistics". Really easy to use. It gives you a link to "Login to get started". Then you should get a popup asking you to allow it to interact with the page. Pretty cool. — Maile (talk) 22:41, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Son of a gun, never noticed that there. Thanks for the tip! --Krelnik (talk) 03:11, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
