Article is majorly biased

[edit]

This thing doesn't seem neutral at all, it needs to be re-written by a neutral observer. WikiManOne 00:34, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seems to be an inaccuracy

[edit]

The article states that it (GCA) receives its accreditation from the Georgia Private School Accreditation Council. However, its website seems to indicate that it is not an accreditation agency but an agency that approves the accreditations of other boards on behalf of Georgia's public schools. GCA seems to be accredited in fact by the Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools which is a member agency making its assertion that it is accredited by both redundant and even misleading to a casual observer. Main Page and Member Schools by Accreditation Agency, last one on list is the Adventist one WikiManOne 00:41, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

biased section

[edit]

I have moved this from the article to the talk page, if someone would like to write an overview of their religious perspective from a objective point of view please do so.

Georgia-Cumberland Academy challenges each student to reach full academic potential. Above all else, GCA seeks to provide students with an education that prepares him or her for eternal life with Jesus. A loving relationship with the Creator God is foundational to all that occurs at GCA. The staff seeks to instill in each student a desire for a relationship with Jesus, and to foster a sense of responsibility for service to others as they become productive citizens of this world.[citation needed]

Unsourced stuff

[edit]

I am moving some paragraphs here after they remained tagged as unsourced for a period of time and were never sourced.

Former athletics section

[edit]
GCA competes against other area Seventh-day Adventist and Christian High Schools in 3 Varsity Sports along with Acrosport Gymnastics. Wally Fox is the current athletic director. GCA students also participate intramural sports such as Flag Football, Basketball, and Volleyball.[1][self-published source?]

Former section entitled "academic overview"

[edit]
The teaching and administrative staff includes 21 full-time certified teachers and administrators, six part-time certified teachers, and a support staff of eight. With experience in business, industry, public and private education, technology, medicine, marketing, finance, archeology, art, ministry, music, and performance, three of the staff hold Doctoral degrees, three more have Master’s degrees, and all teaching staff are credentialed.
The coursework at GCA includes a variety of experiences in the liberal arts, the sciences, the fine arts, and the performing arts. Students are taught to develop in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, technology, and creative expression with focus on communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Instructional staff encourages critical and creative thinking that assists students in developing the ability to work with others in a climate of collaboration and cooperation. Students are encouraged to become life-long learners with the capability to be successful in a rapidly changing world.
Georgia-Cumberland Academy receives its national and state accreditation through the Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges, and Universities. GCA is part of the Seventh-day Adventist educational system which currently has more than 1 million students attending some 6,000 schools in more than 100 countries of the world.

Former section: "publications"

[edit]
The publications of GCA consist of The Voice, the newspaper, and the Fountain Reveries, the annual. Both are run by students as a job and have a faculty sponsor. The two are run out of the Publications Office which is located in the Science & Technology Wing. GCA has a school newspaper The Voice which is written and run by students. Published weekly, it is sent out to all parents and board members. GCA also has a yearbook, The Fountain Reveries, also designed by students.

A few sentences from the "History" section

[edit]
Opening its doors on August 30, 1962, Georgia-Cumberland Academy has averaged an annual enrollment of 200 in its four decades of operation.[citation needed] The student enrollment for the 2008–2009 school year stands at a record 270 students.[citation needed] The majority of the student body are residents of Georgia and Tennessee.

Location section

[edit]

Moving this here, since the source given was irrelevant to the location of the school, simply gave an address and did not source the descriptions given in the article. Changed to info actually given in cite.

The GCA campus is situated on more than 500 acres (2.0 km2) near the banks of the Oostanaula River, which flows along the foothills of the Chattahoochee National Forest. GCA is approximately 70 miles (110 km) from Atlanta, Georgia and about 65 miles (105 km) from Chattanooga, Tennessee on the Interstate 75 corridor.

Sources

[edit]

Just saying that I added sources where needed in the info box. From my research of gaining those sources it seems that some of the articles written above are from people-in-their-own-words instead of a copy/paste method. There isn't much information about this school available online because of how private they are and what information they put on their website is limited. I don't go to school there nor know anyone that does, it's far away from where I live, haha. But still, calm down on releasing the citing monster. I have never seen a school article on Wikipedia attacked so much and brutally than this one. It's shocked me, quite a bit. Hopefully, people from that school will get on to fixing their page. Assessment

[edit]

I am assessing this article for WikiProject Schools following a request at WP:WPSCH/A#R. This article is simply too short at the moment to be given a rating higher than Stub-class; much expansion is needed. CT Cooper · talk 11:02, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Content removed, why?

[edit]

There was a ton of content removed lately that, quite frankly, I don't think should have been removed. Yes, there was a lot of information that did not have sources, but it was put up mostly by people who actually attended or worked at the school. And a lot of that information can also be found on the school's website http://www.gcasda.org. If you can't trust the school's website, then what can you trust? I understand that information needs to be referenced, but for a small private school, some information simply cannot be referenced. I am up to the task of trying to get this article back on track and actually get information back on this page. Hatmatbbat10Talk to me!

My opinion would be, if it can't be referenced, it shouldn't be posted. I am responsible for a significant portion of the content that was removed. Under Wikipedia policy, articles must have third party sources for anything posted. I personally am not very familiar with GCA, but if you want to see what I consider to be an example of a well sourced article for a small private school which appears in many ways to be similar to GCA, I suggest you view the article for Shenandoah Valley Academy. Feel free to leave any messages and I would be happy to help in any way I can with the restoration of this page. WikiManOne 19:29, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
