I realize there is a tendency to worship the information in Pro Football Reference because it is so convenient — but it does not mean it is always accurate, as anyone spending much time writing biographies from period newspapers can testify. Newspaper sources have Shaw as 5'11" in high school and the rosters in the Colts media guides are consistent in having him at 6'0". The 1960 NFL Roster manual, an official league publication, also has him at 6'0" as a member of the New York Giants. In short, PFR has him listed too tall.
