Last Soldier Killed
[edit]I have read that, as a result of the Armistice not being made known to all front-line troops immediately before or after taking effect, there were actually fatalities after 11:00 AM, and thus he was only symbolically, not actually, the last casualty. Does anyone know anything else about this? Eran of Arcadia (talk) 15:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- There would have been people killed after 11:00am, but the War had already ended. So technically, he was the last one to be killed during the war, if that makes sense? Futuremyst (talk) 10:24, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- Concur...that makes perfect sense...As an aside. I'd add that there were undoubtledly others mortally wounded before the armistice deadline, but who didn't actually die until aferward - how would they be classed?...And who knows? The breakdown of comunications and support services (and documentation) on the Central Powers side means there could have been another actual "last casualty" over there...we'll never really know. But Price is an excellent representative figure (for lack of a better phrase)...Engr105th (talk) 02:46, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

- No, wait a moment. The article states "He is traditionally recognized as the last soldier of the British Empire to be killed during the First World War."....but was the war over with the Armistice, or was the war over at the signing of the Treaty of Versailles? (yes, I realize it's a nitpicking point...but still) Engr105th (talk) 07:20, 4 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure Commonwealth and German soldiers died after the 11th. News of it only reached East Africa on the 14th and von Lettow-Vorbeck surrendered on the 25th. The last was probably an Askari or King's African Rifle and not thought worthy of recording, though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.204.240 (talk) 23:59, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Last commonwealth soldier
[edit]Price is taken to be the last Commonwealth death. I'm not sure who the last Central Power soldier killed is taken to be but Henry Gunther death was recorded as 10:59 and as is taken as the last American and also the last Allied fatality. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=16204809 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.132.240.5 (talk) 21:13, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Changed "Commonwealth" to "British Empire", accurate for 1918. --Wikiain (talk) 22:31, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Too bad America didn't matter in the first world war and no one gives a rats ass. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Itchy01ca (talk • contribs) 19:15, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
First Ref is broken!
[edit]Hopefully Flo2son has the needed data? Grible (talk) 20:32, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- It's technically ok now, but the article - "George Price", also cited in note 6 - doesn't provide that info. --Wikiain (talk) 23:58, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Memorial
[edit]I have copied the memorial text from photographs of the memorial, changing to lower case and inserting punctuation. --Wikiain (talk) 00:14, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Commemorative plaque
[edit]Where is this plaque? --Wikiain (talk) 23:25, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
