This seems like a case of someone (perhaps the artist?) trying to appear younger than he is. For instance, all of the referenced articles (with the exception of AMG) list his birth year as 1966. That also makes sense, as if his birth year was 1971, he would have graduated from high school at age 14 and finished a four-year degree at age 18. (Allmusic also says he finished four years at Vanderbilt and returned to Nashville in 1990, which would put his age at graduation at 18). The numbers just don't add up. The Mitchell article from the Houston Chronicle seems particularly meticulous about the dates (and it's a credible newspaper), so it's unlikely it would be incorrect. -- KathMurillo —Preceding unsigned comment added by KathMurillo (talkcontribs) 04:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sourced content removal

[edit]

To Sarahmcguckinpr - Please do not continue to remove sourced material from this article. The Houston Chronicle, a completely reliable source states clearly:

"Ducas was born George Evnochides in Texas City in 1966. When he was 5, his parents divorced and he moved to San Diego, Calif., with his mother, Erene Rallis. He moved back to Houston six years later to live with his father and stepmother, Steve and Marie Evnochides. He adopted his maternal grandmother's maiden name, Ducas, when he embarked on what he expected to be a white-collar business career."

Is it your contention that the Chronicle made up this information? You cannot remove the information by simply stating "not true" without providing a reliable source as it contitutes original research. To continue to remove this sourced information is disruptive editing. --Jezebel'sPonyoshhh 13:39, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I restored the sourced info on his name and birthdate. If this is supposed to be an accurate, unbiased and useful biography, this should be included, no matter what his PR person says. -- TCLPups —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tclpups (talkcontribs) 16:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to the Houston Chronicle article, a Chicago Tribune article from 1995 puts his age as 28 at the time: http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/chicagotribune/access/20694022.html?dids=20694022:20694022&FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=Feb+05%2C+1995&author=Jack+Hurst%2C+Tribune+Country+Music+Writer.&pub=Chicago+Tribune+%28pre-1997+Fulltext%29&desc=HEAD+OF+HIS+CLASS+%60KID+FROM+VANDERBILT%27+GRADUATES+TO+NASHVILLE+WITH+HIGH+MARKS&pqatl=google

as does a San Diego Union Tribune story:

http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/sandiego/access/1245868141.html?dids=1245868141:1245868141&FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=Jun+01%2C+1995&author=MIKEL+TOOMBS&pub=The+San+Diego+Union+-+Tribune&desc=Up-and-coming+country+star+says+Willie+set+him+on+path&pqatl=google

So his publicist is saying that three reputable newspapers got his age wrong (and got it wrong in the exact same way) in '95? It just seems too fishy. -- tclpups —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tclpups (talkcontribs) 23:54, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, ^ Rose, Van. "Singer banks on staying power." The Times Leader (Wilkes-Barre, Pa). March 2, 1997 -- puts his age at 30 at the time of interview. I purchased story from http://www.timesleader.com/ just to check:

My heart wasn't in it," Ducas said in an interview with The Times Leader. "I just didn't have a passion for it. I would wake up in the morning and dread going to work."

Fortunately for Ducas, he had somewhere else to turn- Nashville.

"I was already heavily involved in country music," said Ducas, 30. "I was singing in clubs in the Atlanta area at night and on weekends.

"At the time, I thought that maybe I could try to pursue my hobby and my passion, which was music. Deep down, I knew that music was my true calling."

Unless he was telling all these journalists that he was older than he was at the time (which doesn't make a lot of sense), his age is very well documented in the '90s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tclpups (talkcontribs) 23:59, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other sources that support the birthdate: The Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music (1997 edition) http://books.google.com/books?id=wi_aAAAAMAAJ&q=%22george+ducas%22&dq=%22george+ducas%22&hl=en&ei=HR3jTI-ZH4P4sAOZqbFm&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CDwQ6AEwBA

and "The All Music Guide to Country" (1996 edition: http://books.google.com/books?id=7Mo7xm-X1r4C&pg=PA133&dq=%22george+ducas%22&hl=en&ei=nB3jTN3vN5L0tgP_vNxm&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22george%20ducas%22&f=false

It appears from glancing at the numbers that Ducas shaved the years off his birthdate when he began attempting a comeback in the mid 2000s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tclpups (talkcontribs) 00:13, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not signing previous posts -- was unaware of how to do it correctly. Will do so from now on. TCLpupsTclpups (talk) 00:19, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The 1966 birth year is well documented in multiple reliable sources (I listed a number of them when I brought this up at WP:BLPN a few days ago). Deleting the neutral and sourced biography of a clearly notable indvidual because they want to market themselves as younger is not going to happen. Could you imagine if every entertainer was allowed to pick and choose what age they wanted to market themselves as? We would have a world of 40 year-old "starlets". --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 00:31, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another confirmation on birthdate: A public-records search through http://www.peoplesmart.com/psp.aspx?_act=resultsgo for George Evnochides in Nashville comes back with an age of 44, an alternate name of "Geroge Ducas" and a relation of Caroline Ducas, which is the name of Mr. Ducas' wife. --Tclpups (talk) 21:41, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

– While the page views and inbound links are equal, most hits for the prince seem to come from the fact that he's linked in an infobox. He is mentioned relatively few times in the prose of other articles. The singer, by comparison, has multiple inbound links from songs and albums on which he has participated, and has an ongoing career to boot. Given how close it is, I suggest either a.) making the singer the primary topic of the name "George Ducas", or b.) making "George Ducas" a disambiguation page between the two. (@Crouch, Swale: do you agree with @Roman Spinner:'s assessment that "George Ducas" is not the WP:COMMONNAME for the prince? Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 17:54, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have no opinion on that just the primary topic arguments. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:57, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
