[edit]I don't think that the section here is original research, most of this is taken from Sugden's book given as a reference. PatGallacher 20:27, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Names confusion
[edit]It is unclear regarding when or why he changed his name to George Chapman. momoricks (make my day) 03:10, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- Probably merely to anglicise his name, so people were more familiar with it.--Cymbelmineer (talk) 09:22, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Did he legally change it? Jim Michael (talk) 13:51, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
Name Change
[edit]I think changing the name to Seweryn Klosowski, his real name, might be better than what was only an alias for him, which was George Chapman. What do ya think.--Cymbelmineer (talk) 16:36, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Seems to make sense; it's his birth name, as well as the name used in the opening sentence of the article. GiftigerWunsch [TALK] 23:59, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Well most accounts describe him as George Chapman, including Sugden's work. PatGallacher (talk) 00:06, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough, I'll revert--Cymbelmineer (talk) 00:45, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Possible source
[edit]I've found R. Michael Gordon's The American Murders of Jack the Ripper and he has an interesting timeline on Chapman here on page 187. There is a good bit on Chapman preceding this section but this serves as a nice summary. Is this a possible source? I'm not familiar with the author and uncertain how much weight to give this. Anyone want to be bold and use this?

Poland?
[edit]Poland was non-existent in 1865. There was however ethnic Poles within the boundaries of the Russian, German/Prussian, and Austrian empires. So which empire was he born a citizen of?
He probably was born in the area now called Poland. (151.228.222.184 (talk) 20:19, 1 June 2015 (UTC))
As the article states, he came from Koło, Congress Poland, i.e. the Russian Zone. PatGallacher (talk) 21:28, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
