Introductory paragraphs

I think we might consider a working over of the introduction, especially what is presently the second paragraph, which is especially lacking in info about historical analysis of earthquakes, meteorology, physical oceanography, and space physics, such as aurora and magnetic storms. Perhaps we might have some dialogue on needed content, so that we have some consensus on where to go. Having said this, the main content of this Wikipedia article looks very nice at first glance. Hello, DoctorTerrella. It's nice to see another geophysicist contributing. A key thing to remember about the introduction (generally called the lead in Wikipedia) is that it should summarize the article (see Manual of Style/Lead section). Often contributors focus most of their attention on the lead because it is so prominent, but my interests lie in the other direction - I like to add the content to the body first. For example, the History section is pretty slim (for that matter, so is History of geophysics).

I'd be interested to know what you think of the approach I have taken in this article, starting with Physical phenomena and then moving to Regions of the Earth. I did it this way to ensure that it wasn't just a clone of Earth and that the distinct contributions of geophysics would be clear. I didn't get far with the regions, though; I haven't contributed much since I did Structure of the Earth, but it would be great to resume the expansion of this article.
