significant expansion

[edit]

I think this article warrants significant expansion - I'll get around to starting it some point in the next year or so, if someone doesn't get there first EdwardLane (talk) 10:40, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, agree! I have started to fill in a few of the areas that were previously outlined, but help is welcome. One guess for why this page hasn't been more developed yet is that a number of articles exist on more specialized topics relating to Icelandic geology. I propose that the best approach would be to summarize the main points of these other specialized articles and link to them where appropriate. Any thoughts on this? Some information can also be imported from the Icelandic version of this page. --Divemast (talk) 17:17, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For a start, could somebody write about the types of rocks found in Iceland? That is what you expect in an article on the geology of an area. EEye (talk) 15:26, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a section for descriptions of the main basic rock types and will add more details when I get a chance. --Divemast (talk) 17:17, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be possible to expand on the bullets under "Rock types" and "Geologic history," or perhaps link them to relevant articles? NewEnglandRocks (talk) 20:45, 10 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The lead explained the what is the geology of Iceland, the formation, and historical effects. Totally, I think it is a good start of this article. But I think you can add a little bit information on its geology to make it more substantiated, more persuasive. I think the structure is organized well, and it does not need to make any change. But the balance of article should increase, which means the content of geologic history, rock types and Human impact and natural catastrophes is not enough. I think it needs some specific explains, not just list some points. For Human impact and natural catastrophes, you can say what is overgrazing. The article is natural in tone, no the words like “some people say..” or “most people”. The sources are reliable, which mostly the academic sources, and including more than two sources.

Human impact edits

[edit]

Hi everyone!

I am planning on reorganizing and adding information to the Human impacts and natural catastrophes section of this wiki page. My goal is to remove the list of points, and developing them into mini sections. Kcm9 (talk) 18:25, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

[edit]

Noted a MOS:AWW in discussion of Iceland hotspot controversy that diff shows was introduced well after original section written and then overlooked. Perhaps in due course the detailed discussion here on this perhaps now less controversial topic better moved to article Iceland hotspot. I noted that there has been futher follow up for example to this article:

  • Rogozhina, I; Petrunin, A; Vaughan, A; Steinberger, B; Johnson, JV; Kaban, MK; Calov, R; Rickers, F; Thomas, M; Koulakov, I (2016). "Melting at the base of the Greenland ice sheet explained by Iceland hotspot history". Nature Geoscience. 9: 366–369. doi:10.1038/ngeo2689.
