MinTech

[edit]

Why was Rippon Minister of Technology for (according to Minister of Technology) a single month? This article doesn't even mention his time there except in the infobox at the bottom, so I'm in the dark. It wasn't because the post of MinTech was abolished, because that didn't happen until later in 1970; John Davies followed Rippon, and was the last holder of the post. 86.143.51.126 (talk) 22:46, 28 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because Iain Macleod, appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in June 1970, died a month later, precipitating a Cabinet reshuffle. Of course a month in post wasn't long enough for Rippon, or anyone else moved at the same time, to achieve anything of note. See here. Harfarhs (talk) 11:18, 17 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dates as Shadow Foreign Secretary

[edit]

I have started a discussion at Talk:Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs regarding the date Rippon ceased to be Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which is relevant to this article. Dunarc (talk) 20:11, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
