Hi Sarge, what's wrong with this page, why did you mark it cleanup and wikify? --Havemann 16:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Because, at the moment I did, it needed some wikify and clean-up. Now it needs mainly some more wikifying and some tone modification to make it read like an article (for example, the sentence "Perhaps the GML is a valid successor of VRML?" doesn't belong to an encyclopedic article). When you, or other editors, think that the article doesn't need the tags anymore, just remove them :) For more info, refer to the style guides. Sarg 18:57, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This page seems to be based on the thesis of the author Sven Havemann. I came here for other reasons and do not want to disturb, but after reading "...Havemann on UB TU Braunschweig describes why and how GML was created..." I looked at this. I scanned the thesis and GML does not seem to be an established "language" in the 3D/CAD world. Does AUTOCAD, SolidWorks, etc. support it? Otherwise, this is IMO a piece of research and Wikipedia is not the place for it. Kr 17387349L8764 (talk) 10:50, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article Subject

[edit]

I find this article quite confusing for both newcomers and people who know about programming and computer graphics. If it supposed to be about a programming language as the title implies it lacks information about the language syntax (see Category:Programming_languages for lots of other programming language articles) and what makes it special compared to other languages commonly used for procedural 3D modelling (as supported by many 3d CG packages - COFFEE (Cinema 4D), Maya Embedded Language, POV-Ray Scene Description Language). The current article text mostly consists of information on the concept of generative modelling (although lacking a clear distiction from other Procedural modeling concepts) and on the interactive interpreter and its features – it might be better to turn this article into a software article or one about Generative Modelling as a general concept. Various Programs

[edit]

There appear to be three groups of GML.org programs: browser plug-ins, IDE's and MFCs. It is not clear what they do. Are the browser plug-ins just for viewing? I assume the IDE is used for writing a program. What is an MFC?

1000-pixel wide images?

[edit]

Maybe the application images could be shrunk or split up? Not everyone is reading Wikipedia in 1600-pixel wide windows...

Plagiarism

[edit]

Much of the page's content, including images, is taken from the GML homepage, http://www.generative-modeling.org/GenerativeModeling/1, which is actually listed in the article. This is why the tone did not seem encyclopaedic. I have no suggestion that would keep the page well intact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boijunk (talkcontribs) 00:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.generative-modeling.org is now history, don't open the link. Kr 17387349L8764 (talk) 10:43, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

This article (Generative_Modelling_Language) uses the UK spelling of modelling but the site of the people that are responsible use the term 'modeling' not 'modelling', so although it's proper English it's not properly describing the actual project. I'm hesitant about changing it myself and leave the decision to others like the original author. Wwhat (talk) 16:37, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
