Parliamentary Franchise
[edit]Until 1948, graduates of British and Irish universities had an extra vote in parliamentary elections for members representing the universities, individually or in groups. Voters for the Scottish Universities' MPs had to be, I believe, members of one of the General Councils. That must have made signing up a bigger deal than it is now. In earlier times, it must have been the only way in which a man lacking the property qualification to vote could participate in politics. It would be interesting (to me, at least) to know how those elections were arranged. NRPanikker (talk) 17:30, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
