Where she was born.
She says herself that she was not born in England in a chat she did with rediff.com here is the link: http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/jul/02slide3.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trinindian83 (talk • contribs) 20:57, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Birth date Error
Hi, I studied with Genelia in school and college. I am 27 years old. Was born on 1 November 1982. Genelia was born on 5 August 1982. We were both athletes in school. Went for commerce classes together to Shah classes in Bandra. So, in no way can her DOB be 1987 or 1989 or for that matter 1983. She has a younger brother called Nigel Neil D'souza. He is younger than us and was born on 12 September 1984. There's proof of their relationship on his facebook profile photos. Please have a look. And do not mislead the public. Her friends, acquaintances, all know her real age. So, she CANNOT FOOL the PUBLIC. GENELIA IS 27 YRS OLD AND WILL TURN 28 THIS YEAR IN 2010. Kindly oblige this request. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicole.ferns.27 (talk • contribs) 11:03, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
On the main page her birth date says she was born in 1989 so her age according to that year is 18 (in 2008). But she did her first movie in 2003 so she must be 13 but she didn't work as a child artist in any of her films. I don't know her real birth date but I suggest that someone find out and edit as soon as possible. Adrian 1001 (talk) 14:19, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
There are two pages for this actress. Content of both these pages are the same but the only difference being the date of birth. Please see this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genelia_D%27Souza So which is true?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.153.192.157 (talk) 15:13, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I found the age on one of the site as: August 5, 1987.

Should we go ahead and rectify it? --Taxed123 (talk) 16:54, 5 August 2008
On IMDB it says her birthdate to be august 5, 1983. I think since that's a really big source of information on actors and actresses we should go with what it says there. What do you guys think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.156.162.102 (talk) 15:17, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
There is two diffrent date of births on the above link. August 5, 1983 and August 5, 1987. - adrian 1001 (talk) 19:33, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
I was in school with her. Her year of birth is either '82 or 83. - Former classmate of Genelia's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.103.95 (talk) 05:08, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Would somebody care to stick to one date atleast? Imdb mentions it as 1983 again. And if we go by the fact that she was 19 while doing Boys..which released in 2003 so taking 19 in 2002, her present age would be 25+ which takes her year of birth at 1983. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Navjotjsingh (talk • contribs) 11:23, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
She was my senior in college. Studied in the next class in BMS, St Andrews. She is now 29 years old born in 1982.
- Prove it by giving a reliable source from the Net. Oral statements don't work. KensplanetTC 10:47, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
So far none of the net sources are correct. The only proof I have is a pic I have with her taken in 1997 when we were in the 10th standard. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.103.95 (talk) 07:51, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Genelia has the looks of a fresh college-goer and wants to utilise it by continuing to do college-goer roles. She's been looking the same in 2009 as she was in 2003 doing "Safi" ads. She has altered(reduced) the age in her own website. But her actual age is well known to people close to her and her class/school mates. Anyone with IMDB pro account(which one can buy at $12.95 and has a free trial) can alter the age of an actor, so that doesn't make it a reliable source, does it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.166.13.128 (talk) 10:21, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I want to know who the hell has the right to consider it vandalism if someone edits her D.O.B?? How dare you make such an outrageous statement in the edit page? IMDB clearly mentions that her year of birth is 1987. I don't care what you think it is and since IMDB is more reliable, it should be 1987. Please make the change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sardaga (talk • contribs) 10:35, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
How is it possible to obtain a Graduation degree (2+10+2+3=17 yrs. of education) in age of 16 yrs. (Graduated in 2003 while born in 1987). If you start studying at age of 3yrs., you should be at least 20 years old when you graduate. It proves she born before 1983.
Daijiworld.com
I have added a reference (http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=48478&n_tit=Meet+Bollywood%92s+New+Bee+Genelia+D%92souza) for citing birth date and some other details. The reasons for its reliability are:
- Daijiworld is an newspaper (e-paper). According to Wiki policies, they are reliable.
- It has its own office in Mangalore and some other places.
- It has also an internet TV – TVDAIJIWORLD (http://www.daijiworld.com/page.asp?pno=1)
Comments are welcomed. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 18:38, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the much needed source, but I beg to know how this website is a reliable one? Even if it is semi-RS, I think it is much better to have one than none. Mspraveen (talk) 18:46, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, its a semi-RS source. But however since it's an e-paper, its news section can be considered reliable. But however the other sections such as Exclusive, Classified etc cannot be considered reliable. Anyway, I'll clarify this on WP:RSN soon. Kensplanet (talk) 18:55, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

- Good work Kensplanet. 117.195.227.138, you need to produce the article (from Funday) here for it to be considered. S3000 ☎ 10:14, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you have to produce the article 117.195.227.138 since the cliam is very much contentious. Kensplanet (talk) 10:44, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
when she did her movie tujhe meri kasam thats on 2003 as per some website informaiton she was 21/so now now she must be 26.also as per that in in 2003 if she was 21 then obviously she was born in 1982.also she is got a younger brother who was born in 1985 as per some website thaiindian.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.135.53 (talk) 23:07, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- i think genelia knows her OWN birthday more than a media outlet. if she says she was born in Mumbai then whos going to know better? Does daijiworld have a copy of her birth certificate?
- At any rate, this (her own explicit comment) goes in addition to the fact that rediff too is a reliable source -- as quoted all over wikipedia. Unless someone wants to dispute rediff's reliable status???

[1] I don't think she's over 100. You're going to call that vandalism? Be my guest. By I have my suspicions I'm not the vandal here :-P --Kim Bruning (talk) 23:50, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- You probably are mistaken here. This article has been vandalized (age to be 25, 100, etc.) by anons for like many weeks now, esp. the date of birth. It was a notice tagged by the editor in question for anons so that they know what they are doing. Hope this clarifies the matter. Please see the above section for more details about the discussion between this editor and me. Cheers! Mspraveen (talk) 04:51, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, so I almost left her age at >100. Was that the intent? :-P --Kim Bruning (talk) 04:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that was the vandals intent too..Now that we have a proper source to claim that she's 21, we're holding it safe :) Mspraveen (talk) 11:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, so I almost left her age at >100. Was that the intent? :-P --Kim Bruning (talk) 04:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I am not a vandal. The reason I changed her age to 25 is because I am a former classmate of hers. Her year of birth is either 1982 or 1983. I am not sure which one is correct because the schools in Bandra used to allow you to go one year ahead. She is certainly not 21 years old. - former class mate. If we check the Net, there are several blogs which are licensed under Creative Commons (2.5 or 3.0) licenses. For example, http://famus.blogspot.com/2008/07/genelia-d-souza-famus-star.html , this blog is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 License. The Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 Generic allows us to copy, distribute and transmit the work. Can we use Images from such blogs. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 15:13, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure, after going through these sources, that these images are derivatives from primary sources which could definitely be copyrighted images. I wouldn't rely entirely on these sources for free or creative commons license. It might just occur that a rare image crops up during your search which might actually be a genuinely taken image by the blog author. Hope this helps. Mspraveen (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
- Will a screenshot from the movie Mere Baap Pehle Aap which portrays her work. Kensplanet (talk) 04:58, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- A movie screenshot (with a fair use rationale) can be used in the section where there is information about the character or role she portrayed (properly sourced, that is). A very good example to follow is Priety Zinta's article where you'll see the way the used images are licensed. However for the infobox, there needs to be a free/CC licensed image and not a fair use image. Hope this helps. Mspraveen (talk) 05:05, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- But if you check the Infobox Image of Priety Zinta's article, it has been taken from (http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/stills/partiesnevents/Jaan-e-Mann_and_UFO_tie-up_party/still14992.html).
How can the Image claim fair use there. They say http://indiafm.com grants them the permission to copy, distribute and/or modify these images, providing the site is attributed and a direct link running to the source on their site is provided. If this is the case, we can use an Image of Genelia from http://indiafm.com What say?Kensplanet (talk) 05:16, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, with indiafm.com it works. But if you give me time until tonight IST, I'll figure out a set of images that we can attempt to use. It is tricky with WP:OTRS permissions and all. I recently been through that and hence I will be able to add to this well. Tonight it will be, alright? Mspraveen (talk) 05:21, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Take your time. I'll try too. Kensplanet (talk) 05:26, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, good news. We have this (to be cropped), this, this and this. What say? I like the first and the fourth one. Mspraveen (talk) 16:11, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent work done!!! I would prefer the 2nd one since it has a sharp focus on her with the other things being blurred. The rest 3 show other things clearly. Kensplanet (talk) 16:37, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- Picture #2 is by far the best of the lot. She looks very elegant in it. Her smile is too wide in the other photos. S3000 ☎ 18:08, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- My apologies for the delayed response/update. There seems to be a slight confusion at WP:OTRS on the usage of the image. The images can be used, no doubt. But the way, they should be cleared for use is the question. Since I'm awaiting news from an OTRS volunteer, please wait for the next update on this. Thanks for the patience. Reliable Sources [2], [3] and [4] say she was born in 1987, not 82. KensplanetTC 11:40, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Times of India is a trash gossip newspaper. It is not reliable. She is 26 and not young. She has nymphet cute looks which is cashing on.123.238.78.144 (talk) 15:28, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

As per update in your own website ,Genelia did shooting for her movie "boys " on 2003 and her age reflecting now is age 21 as of 2009 .so now you are trying to say that when she acted in her movie "boys" she was age 14(2003)?????..she is born on 1983 she will become 26 this august —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.16.138.135 (talk) 22:53, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- This is not a place for logical reasoning or original research. I find no reason as why can't she be 14 when she started acting. We rely only on reliable sources. That's it !!! Tell me friend, have you ever been successful in changing the DOB here. KensplanetTC 04:54, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Dear IP 125.16.138.135 .. She was 16 at the time when she acted in Boys not 14. Yes she looked like matured woman because of makeups. TOI and Buisnessworld mentions her age as 21. (both are highly quality reliable sources) WP:BLP needs High quality references and Kensplanet provided that. So you better follow the sources than making your own assumptions. 59.92.138.203 (talk) 12:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
hi,so going by what you have to say and based on the information provided here..in that case, as per your info she was 16 when she acted in boys(which was on 2003 right) this is 2009 so she must be 22 in that case right.whatever written earlier as well was not an assumption it was a pure math, also the information which i found in different websites, eitherways it was only a discussion . —Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.16.138.136 (talk) 19:56, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
yes simple math, 2003-1987 = 16 ,she will be 22 only after august 2009. until then she is 21, OK. Just use your common sense. and what you found on different websites are false info. TOI and BW are highly reliable sources and just follow that. 59.92.148.172 (talk) 21:19, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Simple math? Tujhe Meri Kasam was released on 3 January 2003. She was 15 at the time of release, because she was born in August. But the film got released in January, which means they shot for it in 2002 when she was probably 14. At 14, girls are still playing child artists, not married woman.
- Anyway, let's leave it 1987 per sources; she is not the first actress to lie abour her age, which is clearly the case.
- Also, you will have to explain how she completed school and college if she started acting at that age. Shahid • Talk2me 08:12, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

- re: have you heard the name Hansika Mothawani. i think she is the youngest actress who played the leading role in Indian cinema. she was just 15 when she acted in film deasmuduru(telgu). you can view video clipings in youtube, see how she looks like. Well, makeups used by Indian cinema can change the looks of any person and you know that. and we are not the one who decides Genelia's age. reliable sources mentions her age as 21 just follow that. now stop this unneeded discussion. goodbye. 59.92.169.155 (talk) 09:13, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Have I said anything? I said, "Anyway, let's leave it 1987 per sources; she is not the first actress to lie abour her age, which is clearly the case." - thar's all.
- What I do want to know though, and you will have to explain, is how she completed school and college if she started acting at that age, and was acting continuously. The dajiworld.com article does not seem to be reliable (even if the source is). It says things that do not coincide with her age and acting career. It also says she was born in England and a lot of other things which seem to be contradicted by more reputable sources. Shahid • Talk2me 10:58, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Daiji World is a reliable newspaper. Just because people don't know much about it; is no reason for declaring it unreliable. That has also been clarified on WP:RSN anyway by reputed editors who have written several FAs and GAs. I agree the Daiji article has errors. Many such articles published way back in 2007 have errors. Sometimes even TOI and other highly reliable sources are known to have errors. That's the reason we check our content against multiple sources. KensplanetTC 13:14, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Check this article by the highly reliable Times of India. It says, "Born in England, she moved to Mumbai dreaming of becoming an actress and it’s been a roller coaster ride so far." Does that mean we start considering TOI as unreliable. KensplanetTC 13:19, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

- Have I talked about the reliability of Dajiworld or only the article?? If ToI also presents her as an England-born actress, so maybe it's true?? Why do you consider it a mistake? Two reliable sources say something, and it is ignored.
- The main thing that is quite clear to me is that she lies about her age (well, so do many actresses in India). I don't mind it, and, as I said, don't oppose to having 1987 mentioned as her YOB. Let's suppose it is true. But I do oppose to another thing, which harms the reliability of the article and creates contradictions within the article: I question how she completed school and college if she started acting at age 14, and has been acting continuously till date. If the DW article contains mistakes, as it was said by you, then the info it supports in the article is quite possibly debatable and needs to be supported further. I thought of starting an RfC on the entire issue. Shahid • Talk2me 14:00, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- No, that England-born thing cannot be true. In her own interview to Rediff, she has clearly mentioned that she was born in India. Interview by the subject has to be considered more reliable than TOI or any other newspaper. In terms of reliability, TOI or any other newspaper is nowhere near her own interview. KensplanetTC 15:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

- First, you clearly have not re-read what I wrote. I clearly stated I had no problem with 1987, though it's clear to both you and me that it's incorrect.
- Secondly, never say what is gonna be and what is not. It's not up to you to decide with all due respect (BTW, it's enough to find one reliable source with 1982 to disprove this and have her YOB blank, but I'm not gonna do this although it's very possible).
- Thirdly, and back to my main concern, my problem is with contradictions within the article. I question how she completed school and college if she started acting at age 14, and has been acting continuously till date. Shahid • Talk2me 18:06, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
whatever he is saying right, rather than just updating by looking at two sources u need to have more than that..when she did her movie tujhe meri kasam thats on 2003 as per some website information she was 21/so now now she must be 26.also as per that in in 2003 if she was 21 then obviously she was born in 1982.also she is got a younger brother who was born in 1985(if he was born in 1985 and as per your information if she was born in 1987 how can her brother be younger than her ???) as per some website.for your reference http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/entertainment/interesting-facts-and-figures-genelia-dsouza_100192511.html.ifyou look at the website its shows that she was born on 1987 but D’Souza made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 when she was 21.can you check out the contradiction.still i would like to believe the fact based on this that she will be 26 this august.again its just trying to find the right thing and not to blame on any website —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.157.160 (talk) 00:55, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- Shshshsh, you are repeatedly saying her YOB is incorrect without providing source. wikipedia works on Reliable sources not on your assumptions. why don't you provide a reliable source which says she is 26 or born in 1982. daijiworld website donot explicitly mentions that she has completed her college, . it just says she joined to bandra college to pursue her college education, who knows whether she has completed or not. and generally in India, school education completes in 16age only. man there are many actress( in India) who are managing both simultaneously, studying and career. and between no one said that she started acting career only after her education. againg shshshsh is going with WP:OR. this is funny and ridiculous. don't waste other time here. Shshshsh is simply arguing without sources( which is clearly WP:OR and violation of WP:BLP ). wikipedia need RS and Kensplanet provided that, its enough. - I agree that her biography is very very confusing...........
- Some say she was born in 82, but some 87
- TOI says "she was born in England". She says "she was born in India". The irony of the situation is, TOI later says she was born in Mumbai.
- TOI says she is of Goan descent. But She says "she is of Mangalorean descent" in her interview.
- Do you have her E-mail ID. We can personally contact her KensplanetTC 05:30, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- guys, i found few more reliable sources which says she is 21. [5] by The Hindu and [6] by IANS. all the reliable sources says she is 21. so accept the truth.

- guys, i found few more reliable sources which says she is 21. [5] by The Hindu and [6] by IANS. all the reliable sources says she is 21. so accept the truth.
- First, re-read WP:OR, which applies to articles, not talk pages. Nothing of what I'm saying needs sources. Could you please tell me what I have to source in my message, anon?
- Again, you are all so scared about her age being changed, but in fact I've mentioned several times I don't mind it and even helped you revert those who change it. I only stated that I am sure it is incorrect, additionally saying that it is not a reason to change it. The fact that there are contradictions in reliable sources is not as big a problem, because at the end of the day, we can find an interview in which she states her own birth place or whatever.
- Let me repeat for the Nth time what my concern is: I question how she completed school and college if she started acting at age 14, and has been acting continuously till date. If she did not complete, as says the anon, this is better dropped althogether. Shahid • Talk2me 07:36, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- Expectedly, no one has an answer to give me. It means it can be removed? Shahid • Talk2me 15:16, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- You can't remove until you disprove her age is not 21 with citing reliable sources. all the sources which me and kensplanet provided mentions her age as 21 only. and yes i answered for your doubt (see above). once again i'm saying daijiworld donot explicitly says she started her career only after her education. daijiworld maybe wrong (acc. to shshshsh) but you can't say all are wrong (BW, TOI, IANS, Hindu all mentions her age as 21 only). - me?? no it is you..lol... you need to cite that she started her career only after her education (and it should also mention that she has completed her graduation). come on man, i know you don't have source to cite that is why you arguing here very funnily. again LOL... . this source is very clear that she is 21. i suggest you to do some better work in Wikipedia instead of arguing like in this way. 59.96.38.33 (talk) 08:13, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about her age, but you are so scared that you again talk about her age.:) BTW, do you have an account? It seems to be so. I'll request a checkuser on you later.
- I question how she completed school and college if she started acting at age 14, and has been acting continuously till date. If she's not completed, then it has to be either mentioned or removed, because it otherwise implies she did complete. Or maybe she both things simulataneously?
- If this is not resloved within two days, I'm starting an RfC. Do you have an answer? Shahid • Talk2me 08:53, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Who said like that she has completed school and college education before starting acting, where is the source for your claim. ? Contributions/59.92.190.29 (talk) 09:05, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- When did I say that? I didn't claim this so don't put words in my mouth. I didn't claim anything actually. I'll repeat for you what I ask:
- I question how she completed school and college if she started acting at age 14, and has been acting continuously till date. - I mean - the article says she studied an school and then went to college. How is it possible if since age 14 she's been a busy actress???
- There are two options. Either she did it all before age 14 (LOL) or she did both things (acting and graduation) simulataneously, which needs sources.
- If this is not resloved I'm removing it for the simpe fact that it's not logical. If you oppose, RfC is in order. So do you have an answer? Shahid • Talk2me 09:24, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- What exactly you want to remove?? age you can't (there are many reliable sources which support her age as 21) and her education info, remove it if it is really confusing (who cares??) i only concerned about her age not about her education. Contributions/59.92.190.29 (talk) 09:41, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- I do not agree with the removal of education info. I say it is very much possible to complete her education along with acting. Wikipedia is a not a place for logical reasoning. Anyway, a consensus has not been established. A single editor cannot decide that. Please file a RFC. Content will be removed/Kept only after the RFC KensplanetTC 10:04, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Only after RfC? First, you don't own that page to decide what will be kept or removed and when.
- "it is very much possible to complete her education along with acting" - obviously it's the only way to make it logical. If it's correct, there must be sources to prove it, very few actors act and study simultaneouusly. And if it's correct, then it must be mentioned on the article. Please cite sources. If you don't cite sources, then this will be removed, as you see two editors agree and you don't. I give you 24 hours to do that. Shahid • Talk2me 10:36, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Let's go the other way round. You provide sources clearly and very clearly stating that she has not completed her education along with acting. KensplanetTC 10:54, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- That Apostolic Carmel and St. Andrew's College thingy has remained on the page for over a year. An extremely strong consensus is required to remove it. Your Support and 59.92.190.29's support is not enough. I am strongly opposing it. My oppose has to be considered since I am a significant contributor of the Page. Please this doesn't imply ownership. Voting is not a substitute for discussion. KensplanetTC 11:00, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Clearly ownerdhip. Read WP:OWN, and you'll understand that it's clearly what the definition of ownership constitutes. Furthermore, it does not matter what was here and for how long, especially in an article that is not of good quality and that has not gone through any Wikipedia processes such as PR.
- If there are new concerns by other editors about the veracity of some details, they should be taken care of. And if you consider yourself the main contributor of the page, you should be responsible to address these concerns. I have full right to ask when something happened. It can be either a specific period in years or some point of time in her life. If this is true, there must be more info about it (Maybe you know that this is not true? Actually, if it was true that her graduation happened concurrently with her career move, it would be noted all over on the net, you know that).
- Please read WP:BURDEN. The burden of evidence is only on you. I don't have to prove that something is not, you are the one who has to prove that something is, especially when you claim this is the case. I've actually not claimed anything, but questioned something. You answered and you should be able to back it up. As the one who added the info, you have to assume good faith in those who question its veracity and worry for the improvement of the article. Shahid • Talk2me 13:55, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Invalid interpretation of WP:BURDEN. Agree the Burden was on me. As per my edit, the content which I restored was "D'Souza studied at the Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra and later joined St. Andrews College (Bandra) to pursue her Bachelor's Degree of Management Studies." I have cited the content with a Reliable Source. The source states "Genelia studied at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai. After school, she joined the St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue a Bachelor's Degree."
The restored content has been cited by the source. According to you, I should prove that completing education and acting simultaneously is logical. I need not prove that. I dunno how she completed her education, whether she is a superwoman or from Mars. I just know that content which I restored has been well cited. I need not cite anything else or rack my brains over it. I have relieved my burden by providing a source. So, the burden is on you now. You should provide us a source stating that she has not completed her education and acting simultaneously. KensplanetTC 15:16, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

- Very bad you don't know. According to me, "You should prove that completing education and acting simultaneously is logical"?? When did I say that. I don't want you to explain why it's logical, I want you to prove that it's true. If she did complete graduation, there must be additional sources to prove it and show when it actually happened.
- Clearly her age is the main problem because it's incorrect. Anyway, an Indian actor cannot humanly make both things simultaneously. If she did that, it would be notable enough for journalists to write that Genelia used to run from sets to classes, but it's clearly not the case. I question the vercaity of this detail, I ask when extactly it happened. She, though not an extremely popular actress, is a well covered personality. There must be something about it if it's really true. And I think this should be supported by other sources as well. One source is not enough. Shahid • Talk2me 15:43, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, there's one more. Profile of Genelia D'Souza on Nilacharal magazine. Nilacharal is a weekly bilingual (Tamil and English) e-magazine. After browsing through it's reputation in the Press, especially this one by The Indian Express. I have absolutely no problem in considering it reliable. KensplanetTC 04:52, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Contradicting sources on place of birth
The 2 sources for the infobox say different things:
- "how could a Girl from England connects so well to typical Andhra family [...] Genelia D'Souza answers, Well I guess it's because I am not from England. I was born and brought up in India. My Indian roots are extremely strong."[7]
and
- "Popular Telugu actress Genelia D'Souza was born on August 5, 1987, in England. Her parents originally hail from Goa and later moved to Mumbai. She has acted over a dozen films in South Indian cinema. Genelia studied at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai."[8]
IMDB says
- "Date of Birth: 5 August 1987, England, UK"[9]
I don't know which of these is right. --h2g2bob (talk) 19:12, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I've listed both places in the article - it's probably best to list both while we work out which is right (obviously when we work out which is right we could just use that). --h2g2bob (talk) 19:25, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree. Interview by Genelia D'Souza has to be considered more reliable than any newspaper, press article etc...Press can be misleading. KensplanetTC 07:09, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'd claim that all 3 of those sources should be considered reliable, and so both should be listed. I don't really know the reliability of daijiworld or rediff; but generally IMDB gets the right answer. Only listing one makes it sound like there's no confusion about this at all, which obviously isn't the case. I'm going to revert it back to list both for now. --h2g2bob (talk) 17:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- IMDb is not reliable, Rediff is. See WP:V. Miss Genelia D'Souza claims she was born in India, and that's more reliable than thousand sources you may cite. She may be lying (as she probably does with her age), but it's up to her. Shahid • Talk2me 17:58, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see what WP:V has to say about this? Rediff says that Genelia D'Souza said that; and daijiworld says she is from England. These are two reliable sources, so both should be listed. --h2g2bob (talk) 19:50, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
(outdent) I agree that if she says she was born in India and there is no source the explicitly disputes this claim, wikipedia should say she was born in India. The daily world article could have been mistaken and we should always take the claims of the person at face value unless there is an encyclopedic reason not to do so.--RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 21:16, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- That Daijiworld article may be incorrect, but not her interview. Even if Rediff is unreliable, her interview still has to be considered reliable, unless and until Rediff has fabricated the Interview in some or the other way. The interview has to be considered more reliable. We also rely more on recent sources. Daijiworld article is outdated (April 19, 2007), while the Rediff Interview is recent (July 2008). Hence, Rediff has to be considered more reliable. KensplanetTC 04:40, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Age and prostitution
If she is 14 when she debuted then it is a case of child sexual exploitation under the Indian laws. Indian movies unlike western counter parts do not involve explicit scenes of sexual intercourse or butt and bush show on screen. However, most of them have titilating scenes with partial covered tits and exposed midriff and navel and explicit thigh show. Considering the facts that her mother is behind her filmi success she could be prosecuted for sexual exploitation of underage female child for the sake of earning income. Underage sexual exploitation in films is seriously frowned in the Indian context unlike many european countries. 123.238.71.122 (talk) 16:21, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

Final confirmation on her birth date
According to many website that publish her birthday article this year. Al of them confirm that she is 29, which i have corrected in her article. Maybe msn say so that her age is different. But did you guys know that Msn actually copying some of wikipedia article as i have been find when they talk about actress Shriya Saran. Example when thay said that "she is the first actress to pair with both father and son in law, Rajnikanth and dhanush in the film sivaji(2007) and thiruvilayadal arambam(2007)". Actually the film with dhanush is on 2006 but msn just copy and paste. More to be add, wiki says that she got her degree while wotking in her debut movie which is release on 2003, is it possible she got her degree at the age 16 of if she is below 28 or 29!! So please stop changing her dob!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pravinraj (talk • contribs) 20:21, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Looks can be deceiving...she is born with good gene therefore she looks young. She will be 28/29 in 2011. For those of you who seem to be scandalized by us just saying she is older...do you like her because she is young or because you like her acting? As for websites not all the information you read online it true. Another thing, her brother is younger ('85) than her so by saying she is born in '87 would mean that she is younger than him? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.50.48 (talk) 06:23, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- I don't see how she completed her BA degree at 15 either. Sounds fishy, but that is what all the "reliable" sources are saying. If she chooses to lie about her age, or her education, there is nothing can we do about it; at least not on wikipedia according to the FAQ at top of this page. Assessment comment
The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Genelia D'Souza/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
I noticed a mistake in the birthdates. When anyone checks the people born on August 5,Genelia DSouza is mentioned there to be born on August 5 1987.However on the main page her birthdate is mentioned as August 5 ,1982. Anyone who is sure with the birthdate please do correct it. Balkrishna |

Change "East Indian" to Mangalorean, Genelia's entire family ethnicity is of pure Mangalorean origin. She doesn't have any East Indian DNA or upbringing. - Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. That source simply states she was born into a Mangalorean Catholic family, not that she has no east Indian DNA or upbringing. I suggest you seek consensus for this change and provide more sourcing. Genelia D'Souza is NOT a Marathi-speaking East Indian, but a Konkani-speaking Mangalorean. Source: https://specials.rediff.com/movies/2008/jul/02slide3.htm Just because she followed some East Indian wedding practices for publicity, doesn't mean that she stopped being Mangalorean. 2402:3A80:18C4:A0CA:9DDD:7A91:F908:EFD5 (talk) 09:08, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

@ScottishFinnishRadish: Okay, please change this phrase in the Early Life section: "Genelia is an East Indian, a Marathi speaking Christian from North Konkan." to "Genelia is a Mangalorean Catholic, a Konkani-speaking Christian from Mangalore." Source is a 2003 personal interview Genelia herself had given to Rediff: https://specials.rediff.com/movies/2008/jul/02slide3.htm

Change this phrase in the Early Life section of this article: "Genelia is an East Indian, a Marathi speaking Christian from North Konkan." to "Genelia is a Mangalorean Catholic, a Konkani-speaking Christian from Mangalore." - Done. The sentence now reads: 'Born in Mumbai, Genelia is a Mangalorean Catholic' to avoid any redundancy in defining her background. Heartmusic678 (talk) 14:05, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
