[edit]This page could be greatly expanded to include more facets of women's role in Sri Lanka. Specifically, I think it would add greatly to the article to have a section that looks at gender inequality in Sri Lanka under this related article. lnicholson14 (talk) 16:54 10 September 2015 —Preceding undated comment added 21:54, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

[edit]I believe the quality of this article can be greatly improved by editing the lead-in section. For example, in the first sentence, the word "sometimes" seems unprofessional and awkward, and should be reworded to comply more with Wikipedia standards. The claims in the 2nd sentence regarding Bandaranaike being the first female in the world to be elected to the head of the state and her husband also need to be backed by references. For utility purposes, it would also help to hyperlink Sirimavo Bandaranaike to the wikipedia article about her. On that note, her first name is misspelt in the lead-in as well. Furthermore, the 3rd and 4th paragraph in the lead-in make many factual claims which, again, need to be backed by references to improve legitimacy.
Addressing the 2nd section titled "Gender inequality", I believe the last sentence regarding Dr. Elaine Enarson's findings are unnecessary and slightly irrelevant to the topic. While it's an informative sentence that relates the topic into the grander scheme of the historical oppression of women, it is too broad and draws away from the main topic of Gender roles in Sri Lanka. It sounds too much like a conclusion sentence to an essay, which isn't necessary on Wikipedia.

- Hi all,
- I have made some grammatical and wording corrections to the overall article, including fixing for places where sentence structure looked awkward. Take a look at the history page and let me know what you think.
